When people compare Calgary to Vancouver and what its like to live there, most people quickly compare the sunlight and overall temp. However I suspect you get used to either climate. The biggest thing for me has always been how much more selfish and shallow people tend to be.

Not very nice to say, but so often something (something people do or say) would happen that would be a bit of a shock and I'd think "that would never happen back home".

This is not even remotely true.

A) I've never seen freezing rain in my life.
B) It gets to 30 degrees three or four days a year. The average high in the summer is 20-22.
C) It's almost never humid at all.

You've obviously never been to the west coast.

I love my home city of Calgary, but ya... you might be confusing any city on the east side of Canada with the west cost.

Something Van, and Calgaryians can agree on:

The climate in Toronto sucks and the smog/pollution in the summer kills ya.

Either he's:

A) Clueless
B) Lying
C) Trolling

Cause I can tell you with 100% certainty that that climate description is not even remotely correct.

lol, no need to get buthurt talking about the weather. It rains, it's cold, the fact that you don't understand/accept that is hilarious.

Vancouver isn't all bad though. If you are a person that likes going to the mountains, hiking, camping, boating ect, BC is a great place to live. Everything is basically right here and you don't have to travel to do things. I'm from Calgary but I really like BC, Vancouver isn't really ideal for me personally.

I'll give Vancouver this, they've got an 18 year old hockey arena that seriously outclasses the Saddledome in every possible way. I'd kill for an arena as good as that, and it's not exactly new.

Lived there for 9 months, depressing rain, brutal traffic and cold beach waters.

Halifax is twice the city if you need the ocean next to you.

Seriously?

18 years ago a 12 year old Saddledome seriously outclassed the Pacific Coliseum. And in 5 Years a new stadium in Calgary will outclass the Rodgers Arena.

Oh man, don't get me started on Canada's east coast. Canada's most beautiful geograghy is in the maritimes and it's not even close.

Plus, when you add in all the history there, it's just an absolutely amazing area. Jaw dropping ocean views from high cliffsides, old colourful towns and historic places to visit.

Seriously. For now I'll take an 18 year old Rogers Arena that can actually host concerts and doesn't feature cramped sight-lines and an endless sovietesque concrete. A hypothetical 5 years from now arena in Calgary doesn't do much until it actually exists.

Seriously, I'm sure most people here from Alberta go on autopilot for summer trips within Canada. "Oh summers here, where should we go? How about BC again? Cool". But if you're ever up for something different and are okay with a 5 hour plane ride instead of the old car road trip, give Nova Scotia a try.

So much to do and see. Obviously the cost of plane tickets is going be much more than driving to BC, but when you get there, the feeling is so much different than BC. The overcrowded, touristy feeling of BC is replaced with a laid back, breathable pace, where you don't show up to each event/destination and realize that half of Calgary followed you to your favorite lake/campground.

Everything is cheaper there, and the people (for the most part) genuinally want you there.

I would love to live on the east coast so much, at least for a little while. Really, the only thing that would be holding me back in a possible lack of jobs.

I lived in Surrey for 1 year and the only, and I mean ONLY thing the GVA has on Calgary is the scenic aspect. Vancouver is a beautiful city, but that's where it ends. If you have the money go live in White Rock/South Surrey.

Found the thread. The link doesn't have the picture though which is too bad.

I really do remember it being sunny that morning and then it got rainy later on. It happens. I wouldn't have made it up.

This is the car culture commentary I was talking about.

You said "freezing rain", "30 degrees every day" and "so humid...blah blah blah".

Vancouver never gets any of those things. Your average summer temperature claim is off by ten degrees. WTF?

Quit trolling.

We get the freezing rain once in awhile but not often. Only a couple times a year. And I'm with you on the summer temps. There'll be a week in July and August where complaints of being too hot are talking points but for the most part 23ish is the normal summer temp.
