For Iginla, he can play for the only NHL team he's played for and there is something special about that. As far as the Flames are concerned, I think it boosts the franchise's image. Other players are going to see the Flames as an organization that isn't going to ruthlessly push out a player that has given the franchise and city so much. If Alfredsson can choose to retire as a Senator regardless of whether the Senators have a chance to win the Cup, Iginla can retire as a Flame.

Iginla is too entrenched in the decision making process IMO. It's time for an amicable break up, one that benefits both parties.
He is, and will always be my favorite flame of all time. But it's definitely time to go.

Anybody who wants him traded clearly thinks we fired Feaster and hired somebody competent enough to get some value out of a trade. As is it will be another Phaneuf or Regehr trade that will make the team worse and not improve our future at all.

That's exactly it.
Would be great to see him stay and retire a Flame but the only reason to do that would be just that. We're not going to win while he's here. We're also not going to get the prices necessary to effectively rebuild if we don't trade him.
I think some people confuse trading Iginla with blaming him or being disloyal when it's not that at all. Gotta set the emotions aside and do whats right.

Sutter was better. Feaster has done nothing that can compare to the good moves Sutter did make in his first few seasons before he started to make the bad moves. While his bad moves have been no better than some of Sutter's. Not only did the Regehr trade downgrade our roster but we sent a second pick to them? That was brutal. Hell with how Stajan has played this season the Phaneuf trade has been somewhat improved even. J-Bo has finally got it going under a coach that knows what to do with him which upgrades that signing.
Not to mention Colorado saving our asses from one of the worst debacles a GM in the history of this league not just this team has almost ended up doing. Why people are fine with forgiving that because Colorado saved us is beyond me. It was still an idiot that almost gave away a pack of draft picks to give a player to another team. And his track record in Tampa was no better. He is a joke. That is who you want handling a trade like Iginla?
If there was any chance of Iginla being traded this season Feaster should have been fired after the lockout like Burke. But now the Flames seem to be changing their stance of not trading him with less than two weeks before the deadline with an idiot GM. The trade would be brutally bad and ensure this team will be one of the worst teams in this league for many, many, many, many years to come if it doesn't cause so much damage we even manage to keep the team in town.

What?????????
The team is safe. If ownerhsip wanted to sell there would be a lineup of potential buyers for a team in a great canadain market.

Seconded. I had no joy in seeing Nilsson win the Cup as an Oiler. Those of you who want Iginla traded because you think he's "checked out" disgust me.

I love Iginla, I love what he means to the Calgary Flames. I do not want to see him traded I want him to be a Flame for life. I think the Flames can deal other pieces and rebuild with Jarome still a part of the team. My head says trading him might be a necessity but my heart says he should stay, I'm going with my heart on this one.

He's the only player that will get us what we need. His career will end with us trying to finally surround him with elite young talent. We haven't done so for 16 years, and we won't with him being 36.
He's accomplished as much as he can here. Frankly anyone that thinks he should stay and take a discount is being very selfish. He deserves a chance to play with a top team and elite talent. We will only surround him with more garbage.
He has taken a incredible amount of abuse from this fan base, that is completely unwarranted. Being compared to Yzerman and Sakic even though they are centers and he's a winger. His character being questioned all the time, his leadership. He's shown he's great at everything, but one man can't do it all. He deserves the chance to leave.

Because of Iginla I went from being a Leaf's fan to a Flame's fan. In a time when sports stars have taken a beating for being bad role models, Iginla shines. I don't know, but I think that, for being as superb at his sport as he is, but also a humble, honorable human being at the same time, it's just really compelling for alot of people. And he's very personable and natural with media, a great smile and very polite. Those things ad up.
