I hope we do better than that. Swap Khokhlachev and Cross for Hamilton and nowwe're talking! Khokhlahev would be a nie pick-up, though.

The same source indicated to CSNNE.com the Bruins had a standing offer of 19-year-old Russian prospect Alex Khokhlachev and a second round pick on the table for Morrow, but the player and Dallas management decided to go with Pittsburgh’s offer instead.
|
That's some high value for Brendan frickin' Morrow.

Jebus, if Morrow can get... Morrow, then I expect Dougie Hamilton for Iginla

No matter how to spin it, Brendan Morrow is a big downgrade from Iginla. So if the going rate for B. Morrow is J. Morrow -- then Iginla's asking price has to be a 1st + a top-tier prospect.

Are my concerns about Russian players (disinterested, ready to jump back to the KHL if they don't get their way, etc.) applicable to Khokhlachev? I know nothing about him.

Is there something I'm missing here. Joe Morrow has 4 goals in 57 games in his first season in the AHL. Maybe he adds things other than goals, but I just don't know what the fuss is about.
Why is everyone so surprised he's been traded? Especially for a established player who adds an element the Penguins are missing.

Sure, very reasonable what you just said.
That's not what the post I responded to said though. The Penguins didn't offer the exact same package for Brendan Morrow as they would have offered for Iginla. They don't have the same value, I would say that much is obvious.

I really wouldn't use goals as an indicator for a defenseman in his first year in the AHL. The guy isn't a blue-chip prospect (see Galchenyuk, Hamilton etc) but he's still a damn good one.
Saw him a couple of times in Portland - good young player. He's never going to be a #1 star dman but he could easily be a #2 guy that plays on your backend for a decade.

on the flip side, it is quite possible that Boston targeted Morrow exactly because they didn't want to part with a potential cornerstone like Hamilton.
There is not guarantee that they will up their offer or even pursue Iggy simply as a result of Pittsburgh's move.
they could stand pat rather than trading a Dougie Hamilton.

The only reason the standing offer from the Bruins for B. Morrow leaked is that it's a done deal. I imagine every GM in the running for Iginla is very tight lipped at the moment -- in order to avoid inflaming what is undoubtedly already a bidding war.
Also, due to Iginla's cap-hit vs. Morrow. A deal mightbe more complicated, involving cap dumps going the Flames' way.

I don't think so, pretty sure he plays junior in the OHL

Bruins players that aren't going anywhere:
Seguin
Hamilton
Chara
Marchand
Bergeron
Rask
Bruins players that aren't likely going anywhere:
Krejci
Lucic
Seidenberg
Khudobin
Spooner
That leaves:
Horton
Paille
Thornton
Mcquaid
Peverley
Ference
Boychuk
Campbell
Pandawful
Macdermid
Caron
Kelly
Johnson
So if anyone in those first two groups are who you'd like back for Iginla, don't rush to the game tonight because it won't be his last game as a Flame.

No offense, but 2 hours ago, Pens fans had Morrow in one of your two top groups.
It's the time of the year that GMs feel like getting one more piece will get you a cup. Very very few roster players are off limits. Even less so for non-roster players.

Played most of the year for his fathers team in the KHL, came back to Windsor at the trade deadline. Now that Windsor's season is over he is back in the AHL

I really fail to see what's so special about Spooner. Care to shed some light?

@BsFaninCGY: If Hamilton isn't on the table, I doubt the Bruins are even in the running for Iginla. The Flames don't want any of that other stuff you just listed, unless it's a cap dump situation.
