I like what Feaster/Weisbrod/Conroy have done in terms of drafting and hopefully they can continue to stock the cupboards with additional picks.

Edwards has been willing to pay more than 60 million dollars per year for this sad sack of saps so I'm sure he wouldn't mind throwing another couple million down the drain.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but when did people start hating on Troy Frikken' Ward?
Last year this guy was being touted on here as the perfect AHL coach, a great influence on the younger generation and a lynch mob broke out wanting him as our head coach.
Hell, the biggest group against him as our head coach was concerned about how we'd replace him in Abbotsford.
I can't keep track of who CP hates sometimes...

Touted as a perfect AHL coach by who?
I certainly don't hate him but he hasn't done much to show that he is anything more than an average AHL coach and should be more worried about keeping his AHL job for next season than making a move to the NHL.

I don't even need to get off the first page of this one to see all the excited posts about Ward:
http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthr...ight=troy+ward
I'm not even going to search for it, but there's an entire thread when we were hiring a new coach. Guess you'll have to trust me that it exists if you don't remember it.
And now he's on thin ice? I get that they're out of a playoff spot, but this is a coach last year I kept hearing about and seeing in interviews how he was a great coach and a great mentor for prospects.

I was wondering who it was not saying it wasn't.
If it was fans then it is understandable why opinion has changed as the basis for liking him probably wasn't based on much more than hype from Feaster and co. as well as hope that a guy in the organization was better than he actually was.
If it was from hockey insiders or media member than I have been a little more interested.
I don't follow the Heat well enough to say if he is great or poor but based on looking at his rosters and results I sure don't see anything to indicate that he is any better than half the other guys in the AHL and certainly can't see how he is supposed to be ready for the NHL but perhaps there is something behind the scenes that others know.
I haven't heard about him being a great coach or great for prospects outside of Flames/Heat fans with a very vested/bias interest in their views of him.

What makes u think things are better down in Abby? That team went from first place with a substantial lead over everyone to out of the playoff picture and looks like they will not make it in. Plus ward does not develop players. His goal is an NHL contract not development.

At this point I believe he would be an improvement on Hartley. In fact I believe the franchise would be best off reversing the roles of Hartley and Ward.
With Hartley coaching the Heat top players would thrive being given every chance possible to produce offensively without having to worry about strict commitment to defense. Guys like Sven, Reinhart, Byron, Johnny Hockey, Jankowski, etc would all have their confidence sky high as they enter the NHL. Personally I don't believe winning as important in the AHL as it is developing skills and gaining confidence and Hartley isn't going to win you a championship but he's going to let skilled guys hone their skills.
Ward meanwhile would have the Flames playing a more defensive oriented game (not as exciting I know) that would cater to their lack of talent and keep games close. Much like Brent knew they had to play. He's obviously a 'my way or the highway' type of guy which is great if you are trying to build a team identity which the Flames lack under Hartley with the freewheeling style and non-commitment to defense.
I feel the Flames may have the right coaches for the organization but coaching the wrong teams.

Yep the loss of Baertschi, Brodie, McCarthy and Byron was pretty big for them. Just because they lost a lot of their best players and became worse doesn't mean the atmosphere and environment there is bad.

Well I think the Heat were struggling already when Sven went down with his first injury. That and losing their only puck moving defenceman.
Also doesn't help that their goaltending was air tight to start and now Brust seems to be giving up goals left right and center.

That's not really Ward's fault. He can only coach the players the organization gives him.
