I mean, I only punched a wall once, but it was certainly an example of how bad I took losses back then. Granted the wins were equally awesome in the other direction.
My bro punched a hole in the wall after Game 7 vs Anaheim in 2006. Ahhh the memories.

It has changed for me this year and it is mostly due to performance/expectations. I am also in the twilight of my 20's and am not the same fan that I was when I was younger. I do follow the team more clsoely now spending more time on CP at home as well as listening to the FAN during the workday which I didn't do in my early 20's.

I remember the 09/10 season I was so emotionally invested in the team. My mood was horrible during that 9 game slide. The 2011 run I was also cheering loudly when the Flames scored when playoffs looked possible. This year I was optimistic to start the season but when they crapped the bed coming out of the gate I wasn't surprised. I am tired of the direction of this team and am not affected by wins or losses anymore. I also spent a pretty penny to watch the first 2 games of the California road trip and am still feeling bitter about the horrible games I witnessed in LA.

I just don't believe in this team anymore which is affecting how I watch and cheer for them. I still watch every game, and follow the team very closely online but I am just not as emotionally invested in the wins/losses than I was a couple years ago.

Yup, exactly. It's the opposite of love...it's called indifference.

I was born in southern Alberta the same year the Flames came to Calgary. I didn't know anything other than the Flames growing up. I think I was only vaguely aware of Edmonton because they were our biggest rival.

By the age of 6 I was living and breathing hockey all winter long. A couple years later the Flames finally won the cup and I knew then there would never be another team in my heart.

I took it pretty hard when the team started being dismantled, ending with Fleury's trade. At that point I took a step back from the team. Watching the games here and there, but not paying much attention to the progress of the team or even individuals. I think I only recognized Iginla was a big talent by 2000 or so.

Sutter brought respectability back to the franchise and made it worthwhile to be a hardcore Flames fan again. Throughout my 20s I found myself becoming more and more fanatical. Watching every highlight, evaluating every player in detail, defending the team at all costs against what could only be called "honest" criticism.

At one point, after watching the Flames lose to the Oilers with my Edmonton-fan friends, I lost it. I got really angry and started slamming doors and calling out my friends. I went home and felt really ashamed about the way I acted and I decided I would never let the team get me angry again. I would be upset or even sad, but never angry.

I've been living in California for the last 3 years which makes the non-playoff years a little easier to bear. I think if I was still living in Calgary it would be so difficult to deal with. Here you can just tune it out and go on with your life as there is so much else to do here all year round. It also helps that I've been so busy with chiropractic school that I haven't had time to follow them a whole lot.

Now that school is winding down, I find myself watching every game on Center Ice. I am a realist as to where this team is at now, so I don't get upset anymore when things don't go our way. The California road trip was hard for me to watch, but I got over it a lot quicker than I would have 5 years ago. I just want to watch the games because I want to see where this team is heading. I still think there's plenty to be excited about and I try to focus on that rather than the few guys that give me headaches as a fan.

I post on CP because I miss talking hockey and getting opinions from everyone as to what's going on with the team. There's just no substitute for talking hockey to a Canadian. American fans just aren't the same...when I can find an actual hockey fan.

I must admit, I am surprised by the lack of moderate viewpoints on this site. It is either extreme viewpoint at all times. There's only a handful that I notice will not overreact to every little thing that happens. Maybe that's because the moderates are too apathetic to bother posting about a bad team? More than likely the case. I still find this site a great source of information about the team, especially since there is ZERO sports news coverage of any team outside of the Sharks here, and even then it's barely adequate coverage.

I find myself doing more research on the team than ever. I'm avidly watching the draft and prospect pool grow as I think that's the next group of players I could get truly excited by. I would say I put in about 30 minutes a day getting caught up on the comings and goings of the team. Not much more than that.

Game nights involve me watching the game and scanning the game thread on CP for any clever posts or fun topics. It really just enhances the game as I am usually watching it with my wife who really doesn't get into the game too much and will often read a book during the game.

I would say I spend far less time worrying about or thinking about the Flames. They are an interest still, but they've fallen way down the priority list in my life. Career, family, health, and personal growth have all come ahead of it in the last few years...as it should be.

I no longer watch the games.

Every game I have watched this year they have lost.

The success rate on games I don't watch is much greater.

I watch every game of every season regardless of how hot or cold we are. This year its gotten to the point where i cheer for losses. The flames need to draft an all-star to help rejuvenate the team.

I always said I would never cheer for losses but I find myself feeling that way and I think it has more to do with forcing a change of direction rather than drafting the next star of the team. The current direction is pretty painful to watch and as much as a few of our prospects are promising this team still lacks some high end talent.

I will be so mad if they stand pat at the deadline or move spare parts for late round picks. If they keep winning I wouldn't be surprised if they flip Stempniak for a 2nd and Sarich for a 5th just recouping picks the team already traded away.

Do us fans a favor and watch every game left this season. Or at least the next 5.

I used to make a point of watching games. Now I only watch them when I go over to my grandparents house. My grandpa damn near turns red and stops breathing (he is on oxygen and the monitor starts beeping) during every game when the flames are tanking. If the flames end up killing him I probably wont watch hockey anymore.

apathy/frustration is beginning to set in.

Up until this year, I've missed watching/attending maybe 10 games (total) since 2001.

This year alone? I've missed probably 6-8 games. There's a lack of interest to me in the actual games because in my mind, I know that this team is currently incapable of winning the Stanley Cup.

Every other year I've been able to ramp up a fair bit of hometown excitement and find positives, but this year I've really only enjoyed watching a few specific parts of the team (...and one of those parts is now down in the AHL). I am just so very incredibly bored of watching overpaid 2nd/3rd line talent lose to the more talented teams in the league.

It's a bad hockey team that seems to love being a bad hockey team..it's beyond frustrating as a fan who really does love the Flaming C.

I don't care about the Flames nearly as much as I did a few years ago, which should be expected considering how we've fallen. I still watch a game a week or so, but my passion level for the team is at an all time low. It's not even so much the constant losing, it's more so management's stance of us still being a "playoff team". I'd actually probably be more invested in the team if we were rebuilding simply because there'd be young players to get excited about, and a brighter future then we have now, with the Flames they are now there is very little to be excited about.

Love em exactly the same as I always have. Something maybe to be said about the late 20s thing though. I'm nearing 30 and I really dont get all that mad anymore. The Anaheim playoff loss in 06 seems to be the real breaking point for super fans on this board. I remember going into The backyard and throwing my beer at the fence and yelling/swearing in frustration. Now I just carry on with my night after a loss, it's not as big of a deal anymore. That said I still watch and cheer every game, I will never cheer for a loss however, there is absolutely no fun and no reason to want to see them lose for me

I watch every minute of every game. I always want them to win. But I am not going to jump off a bridge if they don't - hell, I survived the Ballard years and the entire existence the the Jets 1.0. I will survive (and remain a fan) if the Flames have some tough years.

Things have changed for me this year though. I still want them to win every game, but now I look upon the losses as a good thing too.

I would never marry myself to a position like so many of the fans that want them to tank. The problem with that is that you start to dismiss anything that doesn't fit your view until you get to the point that you can't recognize any good news at all. Being disappointed or frustrated with wins, or a trade that improves the team, seems pretty silly to me.

Anyway, I am happy when they win, and when they lose I look at it as a step towards a better draft pick. So every game is a win this year!

And no matter what, it's just a game.
