It's not proper pullups. it's just a speed work out. Crossfit fran doesn't actually benefit you, it's only to see if you can keep up and beat times. I do regular workout with proper techniques on my own but this is an extra fun challenge to do.

Not all challenges need be beneficial.

Goal one - drop 30 lbs (check)
Goal two - 40 plus rounds of golf - more than 1/2 way there
Goal three - drop index to back to 7.9 - 2.2 strokes to go
Goal four - repeat as low net at club champs

So I met all my goals for this year. Gold medals and Canadian records in Lifesaving sport... what to do next?

Go to Rescue 2012 in Adelaide, Australia in November (kind of like the Olympics for lifeguards) and compete in the Masters division and race against the best in the world.
I'm so nervous, I could barf!
One of the events is the 100 meter obstacle race. You have to swim under an obstacle made of PVC tubing that goes 1 meter under the water. Here's me swimming it at Canadian Nationals...

Once in a lifetime chance to do this. Thanks to browna for letting me go
Maybe get "Calgarypuck.com" across the chest of my bathing suit?

Well I completed my second half marathon. Melissa's has been checked off. Again I decided not to train for it which I am paying for it today. Time was 149.12 this course was a lot harder then Arizona I did last year so I am happy with my time.

Still here in Adelaide. Just finish the Masters portion. I got 2 individual silver medals and a gold in a relay!
I still have one more race in 2 days where I get to swim against ALL ages and the fastest in the world! Wish me luck!

I disagree strongly. Doing a Fran or kipping pull ups are a huge benefit. Regular push ups train muscles and have little cardio vascular benefit. With the Fran, the main focus is training your body to do more work in a given period of time.

At a crossfit gym, you'll do both regular and kipping pull ups.

While putting an unnecessary amount of stress on your joints and soft tissue.

I have yet to see or here of anyone injuring themselves kipping. It's an activity you work your way up to under the guidance of a coach.

My girlfriend recently completed 8 weeks of the Rushfit program while eating a Paleo style diet and fasting one day per week. The first three weeks on the diet and training was hell, and she was very cranky. After that, her hormones and body adjusted to everything and she started to get in shape fast. She actually has abs now. Her results in only 8 weeks are quite astonishing. I'm going to try the same program in the new year just for curiosity purposes.

Ran the Los Angeles Marathon this morning with 25,000 of my newest, closest friends. Awesome experience. The sea of humanity from start to finish was incredible, with hundreds of thousands of screaming spectators along the route. Point-to-point, Dodger Stadium to Ocean Blvd in Santa Monica.

Time was so so at about 4:26:51 but took it conservatively and, for once, didn't cramp up at 20 miles and ran the entire thing start to finish. Basically wanted to get one of these in the bag with the right hydration/nutrition strategy and without some sort of physical calamity overtaking me like the three other times I've done marathons. Feeling pretty peppy at the moment so probably could have gone faster. Challenging course too, very hilly.

And now, I think I'll go find me some ice cream and maybe a beer, things I've been missing these last few months. Off to Hawaii tomorrow.

Forget about the time being so so. I'm impressed you are doing those things at your age. I don't mean that as a negitive, just that i'm probably in your age category and can only dream of doing something like that

Anyhoo, congrats on finishing the marathon and enjoy your time in Hawaii. Ohhh and bring back some warm weather when your trip is sone

Thanks. The guys my age still running are usually fanatics. I was 5495 out of 22,977 full marathon Finishers and 275 out of roughly 875 males in my age group. I wasn't as tired as I should been at the end so I know I ran too conservatively. Walked a few miles round trip to Venice after the race. There were thousands of relay people on the course too, which was actually very hilly and challenging. In all seriousness, you were down ten minutes in the opening three km because of the crowd trying to figure itself out. Lots of fun though. Lots of costumes while the spectators and volunteers were amazing. Great experience. I'd recommend it.

At LAX right now, a little sore, heading to KON. There's an 8 km race in Waikola next weekend I might sign up for.

That's pretty damn impressive regardless of age. I don't think I could run a marathon at this point and I am in my twenties. I need to get back into the gym starting today.
