Nobody fears playing a team whose PIM leader is Matt Stajan. Mcgrattan will have that sorted out in a week or two.

He'd be lucky to reach that, he hasn't gotten a point in the time since I did my first recap 8 games ago.

How many teams have yet to go over .500 this entire season?

Imagine if the Washington Generals was a hockey team run by the NYI management group. This is what I picture the '13 Flames organization as.

Historically, an extremely accurate indicator re a team's probability of success or failure is goal differential. The Flames -13 is in the league bottom 4.

I'm actually excited more about this year than I am the past couple of years. Teams ahead of us seem to be playing better and better as time goes on and I could see the Caps and Sabres pulling up their socks too. It'd be nice if the Isles and Panthers went on a hot streak too....

With wins, both Florida and Buffalo can pass Calgary today. Washington is leading Winnipeg 2-0 in the third, if they win, they'll only be 1 point behind the Flames.

Conference Rank: 12th (4-4-3, with 2-3 games in hand on every team ahead of them, could be as high as 7th if they manage to win these games)

Time for an update, let's see how things have changed since I first started this thread.

Team Stats

26 Games Played
11-11-4 (26 points)
12th in the Western Conference
23rd Overall

Goals For: 11th (2.88)
Goals Against: 28th (3.23)
PP: 10th (20.4%)
PK: 29th (76.2%)
Shots For per Game: 22nd (27.7)
Shots Against per Game: 12th (28.3)
Faceoffs: 26th (47.3%)

Player Stats

Team Leaders

Goals: Glencross (12)
Assists: Stajan (14)
Points: Tanguay (21)
+/-: Stajan (+11)
PIMs: McGrattan (25)
Faceoffs: Jones 59.4%
Wins: Kiprusoff (5)
GAA: Macdonald (2.85)

Really interesting to see that the Flames have dropped in every respective category vs the rest of the league, despite actually improving some of their numbers. They sit at the exact same spot in the Western standings as they did back then, they've neither gained or lost any ground.

Lee Stempniak=Flames MVP this season. He doesn't get nearly enough credit.

That's not a bad call, Cali. One lone point off of the team lead in points, one of only two players on the team to be a + player all year long. Basically running at a 25-goal pace, and much more consistent than people gave him credit for.

But I gotta stick with Stajan, as he's bounced from line to line, and had success wherever he went. The two of them together with Glencross is obviously working really well, hopefully Hartley sticks with them regardless of a bad shift or two. Coach has a tendency to pull the trigger far too quickly, IMO.

Remember Cervenka - Stajan - Hudler combination? What did that last, all of two games?

I like the lines we rolled last night against Nashville. All those combos make an awful lot of sense to me. With some consistent lines maybe we'll develop a bit more chemistry... Even Comeau looked good playing with Backs & Hudler. Whoddathunkit?

Goals against is a serious problem. Stajan is a standout, who saw that coming? But he is the only legit center we have, how that is continually ignored by management completely escapes me.

It hasn't been ignored, they signed O'Reilly to directly address it.

Best guess is that GMs around the league simply aren't interested in parting with their Centers, so they were forced to go that route instead.

Flames seem to have a top 7, rather than a top 6.
