You are talking 6 more games until he regains his absolute peak performance, he will still be good tonight and getting better every game which will give us a shot going forward.

Cervenka is close at 8 and is steadily progressing to the adjustment of coming into the NHL.

We definitely have trouble on the defensive end I will give you that. But i think that is in large because of poor goal tending so far which we all know Kipper is gunna snap out of.
Without scoring depth in the lower lines, it just makes it harder when certain guys are not producing normally in the upper lines. Also, the defense core is not assembled properly in that we have mostly offensive style defensemen. Those type of D-men tend to be not as skilled as defensemen in their own end. If we were to have more defensive D-men, that would take away from the goals for, but would cut down the goals against. Overall, there just isn't enough overall talent on the Flames to be a playoff team. There are nice players that are doing a good job, but there just are not enough of them.

We currently need a .667 point percentage to hit 54 points (the hypothetical target for 8th place). Only the top 5 teams in the league have that kind of a point percentage. If the flames only get 4 or 5 points in the next 6 games, which is possible both due to Kipper and the quality of competition, it would get to the point where the Flames would need a 8-10 game winning streak just to have the chance at maybe getting to 8th.

The Flames will have to go 16-8 over their final 24 games to have a shot. That is a .667 winning percentage. They basically would have to play at the pace of Montreal, Pittsburgh, Boston, Chicago or Anaheim the rest of the way to have a shot at 8th place. They would not be able to play crappy hockey like the Kings or Blues, that would not be good enough to make the playoffs. That is the hole the Flames are in, playing as well as the Kings or Blues did in the first half of the season will not be good enough for them to make the playoffs.

Give the guy a break or be proven wrong when Kipper returns to form.
Kipper has a bad season every other year. It's not like he has been Mr. Consistency over his career as a Flame. Last year he was great, and this year he has started poorly. I think criticism is justified.

Shut up with your damn numbers and math, it's not welcome here.

From the article:

Quote:
Meanwhile, the best goaltender this franchise has ever had, returning from a month’s enforced idleness, is in a slow burn over being left out Monday to become the highest-paid stats man all of professional sports through the entirety of recorded history, worldwide. This, after being played back-to-back the first two games of the SoCal, and despite the benefit of a day’s rest.

In their time of need, shockingly, coach Bob Hartley turned away from Kiprusoff for Round 2 at the Staples Centre. This kind of betrayal, to a competitive animal like Kiprusoff, being tantamount to treason.

“Also, we realize a lot of people have thrown in the towel. As a team, we need to find ways. If we're going to give ourselves a playoff shot and playoff chances, we have to take advantage of these next two home games.”
Hartley:

Quote:
“I still believe that this team can win four, five, six games in a row and get back in the playoff picture. I know that there's going to be lots of speculation around our team and our players, but I addressed this with the players this morning — that's part of our business.

A team that has missed the playoffs two years in a row, currently residing in last place in the western conference with its two best players closer to 40 than 30...

Doesn't seem to be going in the right direction imo

I'll be sure to not renew my tickets if they decide to blow up this team. Oilers have proven that re-building and losing every season is not a solution for success. Minus their Cup run, they have been horrible for the better part of a decade. I have no interest in watching a team like that in Calgary. Build on pieces that we have, which includes the young prospects. If we lose the veteran presence then we will be exacltly like the Oilers have been for the last 6 years....last place.

Man, I thought my commute was long for games, but I admire your dedication, Korea to the Dome 24 times this year cannot be easy.

At this current point in time, yes we are. But have we ever been last at the end of the season? No we haven't...but you can get used to it if we do go the route of the Oilers.

This is kind of a weird quote from Iggy:

“As far as the speculation, I said at the beginning of the year, I don't want anything to be a distraction. I'm not going to talk about any of that speculation."

If you did not want anything to be a distraction, then just re-sign now. At the very least get your agent to start talking to Feaster to make it look like you are staying.

Either way you could argue it's a distraction.

Either there's a distraction related to trade rumours, or there's a distraction related to trying to sign a new contract with the Flames.

It's like having a flat tire and saying you don't want it to affect your driving. It does, no matter what you want.

I guess if you think that re-signing Iggy would take a long time. If Iggy said he wanted to stay, i doubt the flames ownership would try to nickel and dime him. My guess is that it would take a couple of days. The only way it would take a long time is if he was asking $7 million a year and not budging.

My guess is because they have seen how that scoring can dry up or not be enough to cover their terrible defense.

If I am them I certainly like the idea of relying on Ifinla in the play-offs over Kunitz keeping up his crazy pace.
