You mean Ryan Clowe with his 0 goals and 8 points this is a much better player then Iginla...yeah GM's sure will be lining up for Clowe over Iginla.
30 year old Ryan Clowe's best year is worse then Iginla's worst year.

I love what Clowe brings to the table, but there's no way he brings to the table what Iginla does. Iggy instantly slots in the top line or makes your #2 line a 1A on contending teams. Clowe brings 0 goals so far and a temper.

Iginla's comments that he wants to remain a Flame would cripple this franchise he needs a cup and I think he rather be traded then go else where as a UFA. If he goes the UFA rout he will be hated by the city.

These comments were from January before the seasons started. Things could easily have changed.

Clowe also brings ill-advised penalties with that temper.
I laughed when Dreger said that last night. I would be shocked if someone gave up a 1st rounder straight up for Clowe. Although Milbury might have in the good old days...

Hopefully he's gone. We don't need him to continue his downward slide. If he has to stay then 3 years at 3.5 million tops.

I think Kiprusoff is the guy who gets moved this year, while Iginla re-signs to be a mentor to the kids as his role continues to change. Contrary to popular opinion on CP, I think Iginla would actually make a great mentor with his preparation each season and class.
This year, I've also seen a marked improvement in his backcheck and have noticed him numerous times as the first forward back on the backcheck, which tells me he's being held accountable by Hartley.
I could see a 5 year deal to bring him to 40 and retirement, with an average of something just under 5, with a decreasing scale as the contract progresses.

Says Teroy from BC with a picture of the lions gate bridge for an avatar... Troll much?
Hopefully hes gone? Anyone who hopes for Iginla to be gone is not a Flames fan. Is it right for the club and its future? unfortunately that is the only way we acquire assets to move forward with.
But to "hope" for Iginla to be gone... that Sh*t makes me sick...

I hope he's traded too. It will be a heart wrenching day, but I hope it happens as we need the assets

IF he was willing to sign for 3.5, he would have his choice of every NHL, KHL, and most other professional teams in all of the hockey world-heck, even a MLB baseball team might take a flyer at 3.5 million a year...

Clowe hasn't scored this season, has never outscored Iginla before, and lost to Iginla in a fight.
So tell me again how he is a better player?

Good call! I just think that this Iginla chatter must be a huge distraction for the team.

If the list of young players Iggy had 'mentored' was one tenth as long as the list of guys who got inflated contracts after playing with him, we wouldn't need to rebuild.

I want Iginla to be like Bourque and not Sundin.
It does not appear that Iginla will be like Sakic or Yzerman, riding out the sunset in Flames colors with a Cup ring.
Hopefully he can win a cup with a contender like Bourque (although it took him 2nd season to accomplish that)
I don't want him to be like Sundin, stay on the team, do not win the cup, no assets in return. Both are worse off. Then the worst part being Sundin playing for the Canucks.

I would argue read the post before responding please. The poster didn't say he is a mentor, but rather could grow into a role.
Name the draft picks with actual talent that Iginla could have even mentored. Right he was supposed to take Nystrom and turn him into a power forward thats not what the poster is suggesting. I would suggest it would be very difficult to work for you at all, because if someone hasn't done something you wouldn't even give me the chance to see if they were any good at it. Yesh, before saying Iginla is not capable of a skill maybe we pass along some of this responsibility first. Who would have thought Mario could help to mentor Sidney, or Sakic could mentor Hejduk, or Yzerman could mentor Datsyuk. It happens many times over in Hockey. No one is trying to argue keep Iggy to mentor. However I'm not prepared to just give him away either for a 3rd rounder or something dumb either. If that are the only offers than I'm prepared to say keep him, but not at $5MM dollars/year either.

I don't buy that he would be hated. I get that some fans my get upset but who's truly going to hate Iginla for signing with a team that he thinks can challenge for the cup? Can you fault a future HOF for not wanting to spend his last few years on a basement dwelling team especially when he's yet to win a Stanley Cup? I certainly can't and personally think he would be making a mistake staying a Flame.

Totally, the way that Bourques career ended, just unreal. What a legacy. Sundin? Not so much.. Kind of a blemish on a great career if you ask me.

Hate may be too strong, but extremely pissed. If you want to play elsewhere, win a Cup, we understand and appreciate that. But please do us the favor of trading you for some assets now. I think that is only reasonable.

exactly
likelihood of getting a player in exchange for Iggy that ever gets even 80% of Iggy's production is zero.
the trade will be a mercy deal to get him a Cup and save Iggy from drowning in a sea of crap
