Scratch off one big name for rent at the deadline. I'm not happy for an injury to anyone but I'm glad that the Flames won't be able to offer up assets for him if they actually thought he would help them make the playoffs. Anything is possible with Ken King running the show.

If he walks as a UFA, then Florida got nothing for an attractive asset. Maybe they salvage a pick for his rights like the did with J-Bo.
They have to try to re-sign him now

Wasn't Weiss on the top of the list to be traded at deadline by Florida? Now he walks as a ufa. Kind of feel bad.
get healthy Weiss, i could see the flames pursuing you in the off season.

I wonder if this depresses his value next season. And if the Flames should make a pitch as a result.

Personally I don't think Weiss is anything special.
If we go after him with $$$ it will end up being Matt Stajan V2.0.

So you're saying he will be our best forward? |

That is basically what he is. A slightly better version of Matt Stajan. A solid 2nd/3rd line C that can put up a handful of points. Nothing to write home about.

Actually probably somewhere between 2010-2012 and this year's version, with a likelier chance for a handful more points than Ragin' Stajan

Conversely it makes any assets the Flames offer up at the deadline more valuable.

Return on Kipper, Iggy, Tanguay and Cami could make it actually worth trading them.

I'd like to see Flames run a very young squad next year up front with $20 million worth of D, a decent but not superstar goalie, and a few good vet players like Stajan (yeah I said that).

I see him re-uping with florida just a one yr to build up his stock in time to be traded if he hits UFA he wont get much.

Yeah but that is exactly the type of player that the Flames would need as a three or four year 'place-filler' during a re-build. At 29, with probably another 2 or so 55-60 point seasons left in him, he would be great on a rebuilding team at a decent price.

Of course... we all know that the Flames are not going to re-build.

Feel terrible for the guy. He's given a lot of years to that franchise and they really haven't given him back much in the way of credit or respect. This was finally the year he might have had a shot at going to a contender and making his first real run at the cup, and boom, injury.

Interested to see what FLA does with him next year. They have good crop of young centers but not much experience. Shore looks good so far and Bjugstad and Knight are right around the corner and they might have another great 1st this draft. Might be time to turn that page on the long-time Panther.

I would like to think that he'd be a very legit 2A center who can put up 55-60 points and play a decent game. But given how other Florida players have worked out for the Flames....maybe he woud end up being just like another Stajan. Granted the Flames could use another center playing the way Stajan is this year. I'd be a touch leery though about going after another veteran player from the Panthers.

I think he would be fine on this roster given the uncertainty at the center position but the key will be the type of money he's going to be looking for. He's good not great and not worth any more money or term than Hudler but I'm sure some desperate team will offer him 5+ years at an average of $5 million. I just hope that team isn't the Flames.
