No, it wouldn't. You are seeing things that are not even there. Some journalist can't read the CBA right and looks for a story that isn't there and you panick and buy iy hook, line, and sinker.

At minimum Sportsnet has discovered a part of the CBA that needs to be clarified, and at maximum, gross incompetence by a GM. Not sure why people are freaking out at them.

I think Stastny has pretty good value. A team like the Leafs would jump on an opportunity to land him.

Happened with Lamoriello with Rafalski and a couple other RFA's once too.

I just find it unbelievable that people think a GM would put in an offer sheet on a guy that could possibly have to pass through waivers without knowing the facts about it. It just wouldn't happen.

"a club" implies that if the player is on any team's RFA list he is exempt. In any case its arguable. If the intention is for only the signing club, the language should read "the club's RFA list"
|
True, and again this is based on the summary we have access to, not the actual wording in the CBA.
Irrelevant now but interesting none the less.

Not sure if you mean me, but I'm not freaking out. Academic curiosity, mostly...

This line:
"For further clarity, if Club A trades such a Player to Club B and Club B signs the Player to an SPC,such Player will be exempt from the application of CBA 13.23."
Also makes it seem like the player is exempt from rule 13.23 which states they much clear waivers, if they change teams.
|
That line specifically mentions only via trade. In short, the player would transfer from team A's reserve/RFA list to team B's before being signed.
The "a club" language is the crux of the debate. It is wildly vague, but that clarifying note strongly implies that the intent of the rule is that a team must own the rights to the player first. Signing another team's RFA away doesn't count.

This is true, the Flames hockey operations probably have a large slew of lawyers who worked that CBA front and back, they knew exactly what they were doing without a question of a doubt.

Well all we can do is wait until it is cleared up. I agree that if Feaster did miss it he should be fired, that would be brutal.

The Flames would have just left him in Europe for the year.
Either way, embarrassing and Feaster needs to be sent packing.

Can't wait to hear Feaster's response to this.
