7 days is very fair - you have to make major financial decisions and potentially trade personnel. It would be very unfair to ask a team to do all this in a span of a few hours.

Good point by boomer, Flames may buyout someone this summer to get under the cap for next season.

My guess is Cammy. Too inconsistent and not worth $6 mil! He should give some of that to iggy.

Pretty different players. Duchene more offensive upside but O'Reilly more versatile and more well-rounded. Duchene has underachieved the last couple of years while O'Reilly has really overachieved. I've said it in a couple other posts but O'Reilly is big time late bloomer whose ceiling is much tougher to read.

6.5 million dollars for Ryan O'Reilly?
My god Feaster really is an idiot, this confirms it.

Really kind of torn on this. If the Avs don't match, I understand the odds of the 1st round pick being in the top 4 or 5 is pretty low, but it still can happen. That scares the bejesus out of me.
But getting a good two-way center who is still very young is pretty attractive for a fan who watches a team with the worst collection of centers in the league.
Still not sure what to think. Just hope that 1st rounder doesn't turn out to be a high pick.

I don't get why he didn't make this around the range of a 5 year contract? What happens if he leaves 2 years from now

In the past two decades, who have the Flames picked in the first round that is better than O'Reilly? Phaneuf at one point? Hopefully Sven and Jankowski?
A bird in hand is worth 18 in the bush.

The only thing that matters for a rich club like Calgary is the cap hit.

Avs won't match, Calgary's #1 pick ends up winning the lottery and becomes the #1 overall pick. I can't even imagine what this place would be like if that happened.

Agreed. When you look at who we have under contract for next year, Cammalleri is the obvious buy-out candidate. Unless you can move him in some fashion at the deadline or draft.
