Definitly my favorite is "Are you Jimmy Ray?" That song is basically the biggest one hit wonder Ive ever been witness too.

Just to add to the list
"You only get what you give" by the New Radicals.

I hope the older crowd doesn't freak out but did Don Mclean do anything other than American Pie that was a hit?

That song came out before I did, but I'm pretty sure you are right -- he never had another hit.

But he doesn't really count as a one-hit wonder. He'd fit right in in a "One-Hit-30-Year-Career" thread and it'd be a one-post thread. He's been milking that song like a Holstein since 1971 and he's not about to stop.

I dug up this funny quote:

"I have never said a bad thing about the song, I was poor when I wrote it, and it made me a millionaire overnight. Believe me, I'm not upset about this song." - Don McLean, 2000.

He still sells tickets, albums and appears at festivals all on the basis of that song. Pretty amazing really.

How about "Vincent (Starry Starry Night)"?

That was a hit song of McLean's too I think.

Butthole Surfers had a hit with "Pepper" in '96

Actually a pretty good tune, one I still listen to from time to time.

Another one hit wonder that hasn't been mentioned is "Tired of towin' the line" by Rocky Burnette in the late 70s/ early 80s(can't remember exactly)...love that song.

- Anyone remember Kish?
- Tony Rich Project - "Nobody Knows", deep song.

Buckshot - "Sixteen Chickens and a Tambourine", that "chicken sandwich" reminded me of that.

As for the New Redicals song, that is a true one hit wonder. As that song was climbing the charts, the band broke up. They didn't tour, they didn't work on a second video. They got their 15 mins, and hit the road.

A lot of the bands that I thought (and some that I hoped would be one hit wonders came out with new stuff). I am also sure there is a bunch of rap and what not that is not mentioned. Bananarama? Barry Maguire? Frank Wilson & The Cavaliers (last kiss)? Norman Greenbaum? The Group that did Wipeout? Swinging Blue Jeans (hippy hippy shake)? and a huge one that I don't think anyone mentioned na na na na, na na na na.... hey hey goodbye by Steam.

I still can't believe the last one was a bubblegum song.
