I would love for this to happen. My god I would love it. Package deal for Briere and Hartnel? What would it take? Besides too much?

Goirdano as a starter in my mind. Add another D, then a cheap forward?

Flyers aren't really looking to make changes to their backend. I expect that they will continue to add up front even after today.

Thing is who would they want back for Briere?
Would have to be Bouw or Gio and think at this stage both of those d-men would be an overpayment for the oft-injured Briere.
Plus that would make the Flames smaller and older. I would be interested in Hartnell but I feel there is no shot they move him due to his chemistry/relationship with Giroux.

Gio Butler and Stempniak? I really wish Cammy didn't have such a hefty price tag.

I don't see why the return would have to be too much. The Flyers would get rid of two guys with big tickets and who are overpaid. It may be too much because those are the type of guys the Flames should not be targeting.
That Hartnell contract is ugly.

Briere addresses our center suckitude, Hartnel adds some grit and orange flow of death. These are the players we should be targeting. Players like them. I don't see many other options for Calgary moving forward, not without selling the farm or giving up and rebuilding.

For Briere and Hartnell? Value may or may not be there, but the Flames defense would be horrible. Smith draws into the top 4 and Sarich and Babchuk make up the bottom pairing? Not sure that's beneficial for the Flames regardless of the quality of forwards they get back. A second trade that brings in at least a number 5 defensemen would almost certainly be required to see on ice improvement.
And the Flyers would be left without 3 of their top 4 scorers last year (Jagr, Briere, and Hartnell). Doubt they move their top left winger and one of their top playoff performer for a struggling defensemen and a third liner.

Forgot how ugly that Hartnell contract is...I would stay way from both him and Briere.

Ill be 100% honest I don't know the terms and conditions of either contract. I know cap hit and that's it.

Hartnell has 6 more years at $4.75 million, Briere has 2 more years at $6.5 million.
Briere is already injury prone and I don't see Hartnell aging well with the grind he puts on his body.

Daniel Briere is 35 years old and makes our already small, soft team that much more weak.
Hartnell is good when playing with Giroux but otherwise is a 45 point 2nd/3rd line guy getting paid a lot of money for a long time.
Adding them doesn't make us a contender in the West and ties up our cap with two terrible deals.
Going forward rebuilding is a good option for Calgary moving forward and a better option than shooting for 6-9th like this deal would have us doing.

If Gange only roped in a 4th, and Briere is almost double the cap hit and 2 years, you'd think they would be simular in value. Yeah Briere is the better player, but the contract and term balance. IMO anyways. Forwards aren't as valuable as d right now. I think a Butler for Briere would be a possibility.

Briere's only making 3M next year and 2M the year after that. He could be bought out for 1.3M at the end of the 2014 season with no cap hit thanks to the amnesty buyout clauses. But I doubt that, as many teams would still love to have a player of Briere's quality (and probably still when he's 36) at 2M. I could easily see him finishing where he started in Phoenix, they're not shy against playing the seniors like Whitney and couldn't care less about his 6.5M cap hit.

The previous two seasons Gagne played a total of 45 games and scored 20 points. Briere played 147 games and scored 156 points.
I think that their trade value isn't anything close to being similar.
Even with his deal it makes no sense for Philly to make that deal at all and not really a ton of sense for Calgary either.

Loved his goal against Boston a few years back when they came back from a 0-3 deficit.

Just wait - if the flyers lose another couple of games get ready for some big trades. Flyers are crazy like that

The Flyers aren't gonna trade Briere for anything we have. If they trade him, it will be for a live body that can play in the top 6. Keep in mind, Matt Read is injured.
