Hopefully he has a healthy season and turns his career around. He's great when healthy, which was 5 years ago now

Bringing back an overpaid player several years removed from when he really contributed to the team...did the Flyers get ahold of the Flames playbook here?
4th round pick, contract ends this year, knows the system, still good for a couple points, not a terrible move for Philly. And no point paying a player in the pressbox 3.5M from LA's point of view. Meh trade at this point but I like it for both teams.

Is one of the wingers for the flyers hurt? They need help on D, not another winger. Good deal for LA.

WIth the Flyers up against the cap, looking for D and have Giroux, Coutourier, Schenn and Briere at C, the Flames needing C, maybe a Butler for Briere? Haven't looked up the remaining term on Briere, but that trade would address a lot of both teams needs. Maybe Sarich instead of Butler.
Thoughts?

Maybe after this season if they don't make the playoffs or are guaranteed to be out of the running by the deadline. Briere has been a proven playoff performer.

Lol, even overpaid Briere is a very good player and even better playoff guy.

Another 2 years of Briere at 6.5M. He's only going to get paid 3M next year and 2M the year after though. He has a NTC but I'm sure a team like the Islanders would love to have him to circumvent the cap floor some more, but for the Flames 6.5M against the cap is steep.

I want to see a major trade done with Calgary involved at some point soon. Really do.

Sending two of our depth D to Philly i.e Sarich and Babchuk could help them and throw in Briere coming back, Salaries are palpatable to both parties. Only problem with that is, yet another smaller forward coming in. I dont know, just spitballing here.

How is Philly not over the cap with this move? Yesterday when I checked they had $300,000 of cap space left.

LTIR gives them 3.8 million in cap space. After this deal they now have 300k. I was doing some capgeek looking this morning.

Makes me think the Flyers have plans of moving some forward depth for help on the back end.

I could see that. This move does not make sense otherwise.

And apparently there were 2 Flames scouts at their game recently. Gotta be something to this. We have too many D, Philly has too many C and need to shed cap space. Briere is the only logical one to come our way. Unless they would part with a Hartnel, can't see it though.

Briere would love the French connection, high tempo style the Flames coach and assistants offer, no?

Don't forget the size! Or lack of it.
