We use ours on brand new shag, probably about 1" ish. Works awesome with shag. It's nice to come home and see all the freshly vacuumed lines in the carpet. Doesn't miss a spot.

EDIT: After checking it's only 3/4". Hope I didn't mislead anyone.

How is the battery life on this Neato? We got an old old Roomba, and the battery life is pretty piss poor now.

Siiiiiiiick, that's the answer I was hoping for. I did watch some youtube videos of it struggling on shag, but if it does on mine I'll just return it.

Thanks man. Gonna order this sucker.

Its great.

The best part is, if it runs low on battery it'll return to it's base station, recharge and then go back to where it left off and resume.

We've loved our Neato for almost a year now - ordered the Roomba first and it was terrible.

I recently upgraded the brush and filter to the Pet & Allergy kit and it works even better now and is a lot quieter as well. (if you have to run it when you're home).

I don't think you will regret it but if somehow you do...it's from Costco.

how often do you have to replace filters? I noticed they also sell replacement squeegee and blades - any issues with those parts?

We didn't replace the original filter until we upgraded to the new filter, but it easily should have been replaced. (7+ months use with pet hair galore)

I would guess every 3-4 months it would need to be replaced. The simple flat filter gets dirty pretty fast.

Can it learn different floors? ie) Can I put it on one floor one day and another floor the next day? And swap as needed?

Says the guy with a 4 level split who doesn't want to buy 4 of them.

It learns the floor everytime it is turned on - it has no memory of what it did the last time.

I'm tempted to get one of the Neato vaccums and a nanny cam so I can watch my weiner dog lose her $41T every time the cleaning cycle is in progress.

Yep, that's exactly what we use ours for.

This is a useful thread but has mostly been dedicated to talking about a robot vaccuum. How about some other product ideas?

This has been the best thing to come into my life recently.

http://www.thebay.com/eng/home-small...-thebay/155484

There are other brands but this one's at the Bay for 30 bucks. And it's already paid for itself multiple times over. Anyone who drinks protein shakes on the regular, this thing's for you. Throw some frozen fruit, protein powder and some milk in there and, well, Jugo Juice or Booster Juice have NOTHING on the shakes I make in this thing and it takes about 60 seconds to make them. Pretty easy to clean the components, too - just rinse and chuck 'em in the dishwasher.

My girlfriend is an excellent cook and has used the chopper blades to good effect as well to make a variety of tasty stuff including some really excellent pesto - it's just easier to deal with and clean the cups than it is to deal with a giant blender jug.

For any new parents out there...

http://www.4moms.com/mamaroo

this thing has been awesome for us, and our kid freaking loves it. We don't just leave her in it though... we do try to actually rock her every now and then too, but it's nice to have when you just need a couple seconds to put the baby down. You can also connect your iphone / ipod to it and it'll play the music off your device.

An app/website called GroceryIQ...Grocery shopping just gets a whole lot easier when you can have a list manager that can be synced with the wife's phone.

Also as a student Scriviner...is GOLD

Also liking Wrike for project management

And finally a motorcycle is a must have for stress relief...so it kind of makes my life easier....it definitely would be sh*ttier without it

The internals (motor, firmware, etc) of each model are the same.

Only difference is the color and brush/filters combination. The XV-21 has the pet/allergy brush & filter (can be bought seperately).

I ordered the XV-14. It just comes with additional spare parts.

Here's a bit of an odd question... how do you update the firmware? Is there a usb that I'm not seeing? It doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere in the support documents.

The middle of my living room has a stairwell down to the basement. It's an interesting design to say the least, but the Neato reveals it to be an interesting problem. The safety bars leave a gap at the base that Neato can get under about 99% of the way. Basically my $300 robot extends itself over a drop of about 10 feet and then pulls back right before I lunge to catch it. It's like Maverick is in there piloting it.

I'm incredibly impressed so far in how it maneuvers. It does seem to take it's sweet ass time, but seeing as it's supposed to run when nobody is home that doesn't really matter (it only matters now because I'm just letting it do it's thing so I can recognize potential problem areas).

I might need to find a solution for more of the barrier magnet tape though... I'm hoping generic magnet tape will do the trick. So far I'm thinking craft stores. Does anybody else know where you can get reasonably strong, reasonably cheap magnet tape?
