I really think Iggy's desire to play the game is gone. The past 2 seasons, it seems he is just cashing a paycheque. I mean, he is in a contract year this year, and he has nothing in the tank. At least Kipper will stand on his head during contract years.

Trade proposal:

To LA: Iginla, Sarich
To Cgy: Bernier, Vey, Penner, 2nd rd pick ('13 or '14 - LA's option)

LA does not have a 1st to dangle and thier d is banged up big time. Iginla had his best production under Sutter as coach, and Sarich is a sutter fav and playoff warrior in a depth role. Martin Jones looks legit as a Quick's backup.
Bernier solves our goalie problem going forward. Vey looks like a potential top 6 center. Penner is a salary dump with expiring contract.

Thoughts?

No thanks. We have lots of young goalies in the system. The young centrepiece coming back needs to be a C, not a G.

Which of our young stud goalies do you trust more than Bernier at the NHL level? Ramo is still magic beans at this point. Bernier is further developed than any of our young guys and looks to be starter material.
And you do know that Vey is a centerman right? He is putting up near PPG numbers in the AHL in his second year as a pro. It's not like we can expect to get an established #1 center in return.

If Cervenka is the top centre in the KHL and looks "Just Okay" as a second line winger in the NHL on a bad club, does that mean top10 goalie in the KHL = Backup at Best in the NHL? Curtis Sanford, one of Ramo's competition in the KHL and longtime NHL backup, would seem to suggest there is some truth to it.

I can at least understand the logic (although I don't agree with it) in an aging team attempting to retool for a few years. If Flames have actually been 'rebuilding' the last few years and have been unwilling to trade top assets (iginla/kipper) when they actually had value (2 years ago) then the franchise deserves to fail. What's the point in trading iginla now?

The franchise got it right when they moved nieuwendyk but they've totally missed the boat on this one and hopefully not for some ill conceived notion that we as fans can't handle a rebuild. We'd be LUCKY to get a late first round pick and salary back for him at this point....no thanks.

Flames are trying to win right now while they rebuild their prospect depth.

They are failing big time in the "win now" part of their mandate, and only time will tell if they are successfully rebuilding their prospect base.

Nope.

Nobody said the Flames were doing anything special, just trying to successfully draft and develop some actual future NHL talent instead of completely and utterly failing at it, like the last ten + years.

Some others have made it out like they were doing something special or different using similar phrases but didn't mean to imply that you were doing that here.

I would do this in a heartbeat, but I doubt LA would. Sarich is just a marginal defenceman now. Maybe if we add a middle of the road prospect it gets it done. So Reinhart, Seiloff, or Gillies. I would still do something like that honestly.
