So if this is a precursor to something else, what is the wait. I think we are at 49 contracts now. Unless they need a contract space opened?
I dunno, maybe he was waived because he would get picked up. Comeau and Jackman...not so likely.
I think they need the contract spot

Maybe but wouldn't Arnott need a week or so to get into game shape? I understand that they wouldn't want to be at 50 contracts but that is easy to fix.
I don't think jones on waivers means anything more than jones will probably not be on the team come Sunday .

Roster spot can be opened by sending Bab's to Ott for a 3rd with conditions.

I think it's safe to say that there is extremely limited interest in Babchuk. Dude's played 33 games in the past two seasons. And is barely an NHL defenceman. Only thing he has going is a shot. Don't think he's easy to trade.

To tell you the truth, it's not even about Jones for me. It's the fact that Comeau is still with this organization. I can't remember the last time I've been so frustrated by a hockey player. Every single play dies on his stick and all he can do is skate around in circles while achieving absolutely nothing. It's baffling watching him.

That's the flames fault for not showcasing him in favourable situations. Bad asset management.

a guy who wouldn't even be playing on the top line in abbotsford is now centering our struggling captain?
Give me one good reason why Iginla signs with Calgary before the deadline.

I agree with this as well. I think the only reason they waived him, is because there was some indication that he might be claimed. Therefore opening up a roster spot, i can't seem them throwing away a centermen just to get an extra contract. Have to think another move is following this one.

Why the hell? Seriously? Jones has been great. We better see Baertschi in the lineup tomorrow.

Jones to me, is a solid 4th line centre....and as a bonus had actually gotten a lot better at winning face offs this season.
Not the end of the world, but disappointing IMO......and really surprising given that BOTH Feaster and Weisbrod had used Blair Jones as an example of a heart and soul player who hates to lose.
I guess if what that one poster claimed is true (about Jones arguing with coaches after practice) that explains it a bit. Really too bad IMO. He may not be a star player, but he's good at his role, and you need role players on a winning team too.

Is it at all possible that we as fans and amateur analysts like Jones' game, but the coaching staff and management just didn't? Right or wrong, they have made a choice to put him on waivers because they didn't see a spot for him on the team at the moment. It is their analysis of talent that has landed us not only some nice prospects, but made some good choices on free agent singings as well.
As I have always said, not every move is a great move for this management team, but I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt in this case. I truly suspect there was a personality issue more than a talent problem, and Jones just wasn't fitting Hartley's system. It's not the end of the world; it's just weird because we are short on centers at the moment and could use his faceoff prowess at the very least.
This move has nothing to do with Comeau, Begin, Jackman, or any other fan-perceived underperforming player: This was all about Jones...something was just not going right.
Surprising to say the least though.

Really, It isn't an earth shattering move regardless. Like many said, it's a head scratcher for sure, but if Comeau can center Iginlas line, i'm sure he could center the 4th line as well. Hopefully Jones gets claimed so we can find out why this was done (his attitude, pre-cursor to a signing/trade, whatever).

I'm not going to question it, afterall he's a 4th liner he will not make or break the team.
We just know what we see, we don't know what is asked of a player and we don't know how they are in the room.
For all we know Jones is a cancer in the room, not saying he is, just that we have no idea.

Pretty sure Jones is in Dallas with the team and off waivers. There must be more to this story, possible trade in the works?
No sorry, he's with the team but comes off waivers tomorrow at 10am.

Apparently Baertschi travelled with the team too.
