Nothing Warrener said was wrong. The only thing to be argued over is whether or not Iginla played well because of Warrener. I doubt that.

If Iggy did play better because of it, I think it means Hartley isn't doing a good enough job.

It was a bit of a verbal push by Rhett, nothing more. I feel bad for him that the media took it and ran with it as 'calling him out'.
You want to hear a call out? Friedman v Bourque last season. That was a call out.

One thing Rhett said on the air this morning was "hey all I needed to do to get Iginla fired up when I played was start shoving in a scrum after the whistle and Iginla'd be there real fast"
Rhettro's always good for a good laugh ....its important to remember how facetious he really is though....I think Rhett contributes allot to the Fan in the morning and is better to listen to than allot of ex players I cannot stand.
Kay Whitmore the worst of the bunch. I remember watching hotstove years ago and Kay interrupted Hrudey and Kelly stops looks at Kay and says " Im not DONE Talking ...KAY"! FRIKKING HILARIOUS

if it's that hard to do and Warrener did it, should he be on the coaching staff?

I agree. I think we're really lucky to have Rhett and Mike Rogers as the ex-player commentators on 960. Better than most (maybe even all) of the ex-players on the national media (e.g Kypreos, May and Stock)

Stock is definitely the worst. I'm thoroughly convinced he has severe brain damage.

Gary Valk makes Stock look like a genius with Canucks homerism.

Simmer-kinda boring
Garrett-good, but makes me mad
Hughson-only broadcaster I can't stand (when watching Canucks)
Ferraro-great
Stock-ok
Friedman-my favorite
Maher-great voice, lost his skills
The rest-whatever
I really don't get why our fan base belies every sportscaster is out to put them down as part of a vast conspiracy. It's entertainment, not serious journalism

With the other games that they lost or tied in regulation time, it seemed that his line mates were just passing time and collecting their paychecks for the night.
Secondly, on most night, where's his frickin' supporting casts? Most of his line mates are either made up of 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th line players that floats around or run around in their own zone making turnovers. So, most times, there are 5 opposing players with 4 other guys chasing two opposing forwards and you'd expect Iggy to like cover 3 other opposing players?
My question to Warrener is, can he even play defence in the post lockout era (prior to this previous one)? My answer is an astounding NO and that's why Sarich is still playing today and not him. So STFU, Warrener.

By the same theory: Did you ever play in the NHL? No? STFU.

Not to derail the 'stfu's because those are important, but am I the only one that doesn't like how Warrener seems to throw people under the bus? I'm not a fan of him saying things about his former teammates. Some say 'he's calling it like he sees it' and 'that's his job'. My thoughts are - I don't like how he spins such a negative light on the team. TSN picks up on this, and the sense that Calgary sucks is propagated. Although the jury is still out on Hartley and his coaching skills, I personally like his 'fun atmosphere' approach and Warrener's commentary certainly makes this more difficult.
I wonder how current Flames feel about Warrener.

Rhett Warrner calls Ryan Smyth "a joke".

Ryan Smyth is revered in Edmonton, but he’s slowly turning into a joke there. That’s harsh, but he’s not the player he was — and fans are turning on him

Warrener needs to understand the difference between drinking with his buddies talking hockey in the garage and being on the air. The guy's a moron. I have no love for Ryan Smyth but this is garbage stuff.
These comments will probably get him some play on TSN though, which I have suspected is his goal all along.

Warrener is refreshing actually. He's one of the few ex players who will tell you what he is really thinking about an ex teammate or other star player. Most of these guys wouldn't say poop if they had a mouthful.
The easiest part was calling Iginla out. Well deserved. You're nuts if you think that didn't go right to Iginla's mindset and had a direct impact on his performance last night.
The best part was basically calling Dany Heatley a soft, fat fataing Fata and nobody defending Heatley like they're doing with Iginla.

Well, I'm nuts. Way too much being put into that. Overplayed.
I find Warrener to be a bit of a numbskull, a dolt.

As Rhett has some experience playing with Iginla I wonder if he was a bit calculating in his remarks about him? He obviously has some idea as to what makes him tick so I think his goal may have been to get Iggy fired up by having a former teammate criticize him publicly.
I'm definitely with the "it had an impact on Iggy" crowd. I think he's well tuned in to what the city's perception of him is, on and off the ice, and is the type of person who will try and prove the naysayers wrong if they get vocal enough. I'm not saying Iggy's game was a direct response to Rhett's comments but I think Iggy knew he'd been faltering a bit the past few games and had to be better and this only added to it.

some one had to call him out cause his play has stunk up the joint i dont know what you ppl are watching but Im seeing a guy thats old and has no desire to go to the dirty area's to get a goal or drive to the net this cross the blue line crap and dump it off is to predictable and the other D are sitting on that play every time.
