Woods confirms involvement in group's bid to buy Coyotes

http://ktar.com/22/1609039/Woods-con...to-buy-Coyotes

Former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods is confirming that he is working "behind the scenes" with a group that wants to take over ownership of the Phoenix Coyotes.

Appearing on KTAR's "Arizona's Morning News Weekend" Show, Woods could not definitely confirm the identity of the group. But he did hint that Ice Edge Holdings, which has tried to buy the team in the past, is who he is working with now.

"I represented Ice Edge in the past, so that's a pretty good clue," said Woods.

Woods said there should be more information about the potential purchase of the team in about two weeks.

It was sarcasm showing how laughable the Phoenix situation is.

You're entirely too serious about this situation. If you can't see the humour in the Coyotes guarantee, you should watch some SCTV or something.

Huh? I'm trying to figure out where the humor is there. It's standard contract language spelled out clearly to purchasers to make sure they're aware of the situation. There's about as much humor there as the last few seasons of SNL.

i am starting to think that if you live in the Phoenix area and you are seeking some free publicity just come out and say you are working with a group that is looking to buy the team......

this newest entrant is funny in that i can't say who I am working with, but lets just say the groups name may rhyme with mice ledge and the group is formed of carbon based units.....

All this needs is Chuck Barris and a coupkle of D grade celebrities sitting directly in front of a large gong.......

I think you're off by just a tiny bit...

I doubt they are after celebrity. I think they are after $. If a STUPID give away deal is somehow agreed upon and you are the one standing there, you cash in big time. It's zero risk, GIGANTIC reward if it somehow pans out. It probably won't, but what do you have to lose?

Ice Edge weren't able to get the financing when they were on their own, they weren't able to get the financing as part of a larger group with Greg Jamison so what makes anyone think that they can get the financing now with Woods?

Nothing.

I don't think anyone does.

I don't think anyone ever did.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe they've put more of their own cash into the deal, it's always easier to attract financing when investors know you're personally committed and of course it also decreases the amount needed. Still seems like a reach though.

any chance the law of large numbers might apply - eventually if enough groups come forward, one of these schemes has to work out right?

Phoenix Coyotes drawing interest from bidders

http://www.azcentral.com/community/g...interest.html?

Canadian marketing professional Anthony LeBlanc and Chicago financier Matthew Hulsizer, who previously came up short in efforts to buy the Coyotes, are “exploring options” about possible terms and conditions to acquire the team anew, LeBlanc told The Arizona Republic on Monday.

LeBlanc would serve as the front man for the investment group, which eventually could include five or six investors, he said.

Hulsizer confirmed his involvement in the venture but deferred further comment to LeBlanc.

Their intent would be to keep the team in Glendale, which would be a blow to possible suitors in Seattle, Quebec and elsewhere who hope to lure a National Hockey League team.

LeBlanc said he expects that if his group moves beyond its current “exploring options” phase, negotiations to complete a deal will move quickly. He anticipates that at least the framework of an agreement would be complete by the end of the NHL regular season, which wraps up in late April.

That falls in line with Councilman Gary Sherwood’s statement that the city has a “precious three or four months” to complete a deal before the Phoenix Coyotes become an extinct species in Arizona.

Makes me sick to be honest.. someone pay up or move the team for christs sake.

It's a miracle we are getting over 5000 fans per game right now.

These potential buyers could just be a smoke screen so attendance stays somewhat reasonable until the end of the season.

Tire kickers, nothing more. Essentially, they are seeing if there is subsidy money to be had, which they know is extremely unlikely. However, I suppose that there is a chance, and these tire kickers will be there as long as there is a chance.

I imagine there has been some communication from the league office to anyone that has had or may have interest in owning a team that their continued interest would be appreciated...even if there is no real chance in the short term.

I'd say chances are that whatever city the NHL has lined up has already been given the go ahead. If either Glendale agrees to extend the serious subsidies, or another potential owner shows a willingness to eat big losses, that may change. But I suspect the wheels are already in motion for the NHL to divest themselves of the franchise to the most viable option they have at present. Any new group won't be given the opportunity to drag it out. They need to make a decision now, and close quickly.
