Let's talk about: Mark Giordano
2 points in 8 games, team worst -5, looks lost all the time.
Love him, but WTF is with him this year?

Might be just taking a while to get going......the long lay off can effect everyone differently.

He is getting better, but nowhere where he needs to be. It will come.

He's struggling a bit....no question.
He will be OK though....he's a smart player and i think right now maybe his confidence is shot a bit as far as his decision making. Just let him work through it...he will find his game again. I really thought that bullet he scored the other night would help him, but he was not very good tonight again.

That's just it - very heady player with great decision making (usually) to go along with a nice physical package. I hope it's as simple as not being in game shape after the layoff, because I don't even recognize the guy, and he's a one of my faves.

He's been given a new role. First defensive pairing and mostly being the first man back which is a big difference from his normal duties. He's doing okay and will improve and I'd say is contributing to Bouwmeester's offensive flurries. How about that Brodie kid?

Had an idea!

And people thought I was crazy after the Detroit game when I said Brodie is better than Gio right now.
Sure, new role and all, but he's still not up to speed. Hopefully he gets going, because Giordano at his best gives the Flames a pretty good top 4.

Ever since his injury last year, he hasn't been the same guy. He's not as effective as he was and is not a really good defenseman any more. At least until he gets over that injury, if he does at all.
He's probably going to start getting hated on as Butler was because he now is more of a 3/4 or good 5/6 guy playing a 1/2 role.

too early in the season to complain about Giordano's play. Yes there are some games that he struggles and some games that he plays like a beast. He's inconsistent right now but the amount he is playing, he'll start playing like the Gio of old.

We're close to 20% into the season now, everyone else has been criticized that deserved it, Giordano isn't off limits.

Definitely not this season. He's been decent in a couple, bad in the majority and terrible in a few. At least based on the, maybe admittedly high, expectations I have of him. If Iginla, Cammalleri, Kiprusoff and friends can be criticized for their play Giordano definitely deserves to be as well.
Can he pick it up? Sure. Will he? I hope so. But right now he's playing bad and deserves the flack he's getting.

This. People love to exclaim how great Wideman has been, and how Gio just isn't what he should be. Yet the simple truth is both guys belong on a second pairing rotation. Gio is playing more minutes, verses better competition. Isn't his fault, somebody had too.
Replace Gio with Wideman on that first pairing over the last seven games, and half the posters here would be questioning that signing. We can only shelter so many D-men when you have holes too fill in your lineup, he is at least showing the ability to be a better number 2 defenseman then Buttler.

he might be not coming across with as strong play as we're used to, but there's gotta be a connection with him being on the top pairing, and his partner, playing the best hockey he has in 3 seasons as a flame.
giordano should get better.

I think he is looking much better as the season progress's. He is definitely improving. Only a matter of time until he is at 100% Gio like fashion.
