Just heard Sieloff is out tonight due to a lower body injury. Don't know what happened he played the whole game last night.

Playoff hopes pretty much crushed at this point.

nice. 11 points in 21 games ... I'm really happy with him production-wise so far, given that he made a huge leap in terms of opposition. Plus the Friars aren't exactly what you'd call a stacked team.

Johnny G. just scored...4-1. The drought is ovah!

Seven SOG also out of 30 shots.

I can't wait to see what he does in a first line centre role, as opposed to the 3rd line wing role he's apparently been used as.

They have two good goalie prospects, the best defence in the league, and solid scoring depth.

I'd be surprised if they don't go deep into the playoffs at the least.

remember when Gaudreau was cut last year and he took that as motivation to show everyone that they were wrong? Could easily see Brossoit on a similar mission to prove himself. Great to see that he's doing so well.

Yeah, anything can happen in the playoffs, but that would be the smart bet right now.

It's crazy that the Winterhawks have already clinched a playoff spot (did so with 22 games left in the season).

The Rockets have been amazing too, so I think they could upset the Winterhawks. 17-0-2-0 in their last 19.

I can't imagine Myles Bell doesn't get a pro contract at some point. Absolutely crazy as a defence turned forward.

did a stats overview of our prospects outside of the NHL and AHL a couple months back ... time to update:

2008 Draft

Pick # 48 - C Mitch Wahl (Utah/ECHL)

ECHL 30 GP, 11 G + 28 A = 39 P, -4, 77 PIM
AHL 3 GP, 0 G + 0 A = 0 P, even, 0 PIM

Wahl leads the Grizzlies in assists and points and is sixth in PPG scoring in the ECHL. That being said, I fully expect the Flames to cut ties with Wahl this summer. Despite being the Grizzlies' best scorer, other prospects like Howse were called up to the AHL instead of him when the lockout ended. The Flames don't seem to see a future in him and seem to have given up on him. I'd be shocked if the Flames decided to re-sign him this summer.

Pick #108 - LW Nick Larson (Notre Dame/NCAA)

26 GP, 2 G + 2 A = 4 P, 28 PIM

Larson never had much offensive upside, but he seems to have lost every offense he ever possessed, as he went from 19 to 8 to now 4 points over his last three years. No way he'll get signed.

2009 Draft

Pick # 74 - LW Ryan Howse (Utah/ECHL)

ECHL 16 GP, 1 G + 6 A = 7 P, -6, 10 PIM
AHL 9 GP, 0 G + 0 A = 0 P, +0, 2 PIM

1 goal in 25 pro games tells you everything you need to know - we all knew that Howse would be in trouble if his goal scoring didn't translate to the pro level. Well, it looks it hasn't. Maybe he can carve himself a career as a checker, but his off-ice/fitness issues and his injury problems have made me pretty sceptical. Still, he has more than one year left to prove he belongs here.

Pick #171 - G Joni Ortio (HIFK Helsinki/SM-liiga)

44 GP, 20-16-7, .919% svs, 2.34 GAA, 3 SO

Ortio seems to do quite well in Finland for a pretty mediocre HIFK team. Whether he stays over there for another year or comes back for a new try in Abbotsford - I'm pretty sure he's in the long-term plans and I hope he continues to develop. All the playing time in Finland surely helps his development.

Pick #201 - C Gaelan Patterson (Utah/ECHL)

35 GP, 1 G + 13 A = 14 P, -11, 18 PIM

Utah has had Patterson play both center and defenseman this year - he was always a defensive forward for the bottom six, so I can see him being solid on the blueline as well. However, he is in his final ELC year and given that he stayed in the ECHL even when the lockout ended, I don't expect the Flames to re-sign him.

2010 Draft

Pick #103 - D John Ramage (Wisconsin/NCAA)

24 GP, 4 G + 3 A = 7 P, 42 PIM

Not long ago, GM Jay Feaster tried to convince Ramage to leave college early, so I didn't have any doubts that he is in their plans. However, recent comments by John Weisbrod painted another picture ... I'm not so sure anymore. Still, Weisbrod said this is Ramage's best season and he continues to be the Badgers' captain. We'll see.

Pick #108 - C Bill Arnold (Boston C./NCAA)

24 GP, 10 G + 10 A = 20 P, +2, 22 PIM

Johnny Gaudreau is the Flames prospect on the Boston College Eagles that is getting a lot of attention, while his teammate Bill Arnold is somehow flying under the radar. However, Arnold is a solid prospect and he could turn into a very solid bottom-six forward in the NHL. He is effective on the PK and responsible defensively while also putting up good numbers. He is in his third college year - I expect him to play all four years, but who knows ...

Pick #133 - LW Michael Ferland (Saskatoon/WHL)

15 GP, 6 G + 8 A = 14 P, +9, 10 PIM

Ferland returned to the WHL as an overager after being limited to 7 AHL games early in the season. He played 4 games for his old team, the Brandon Wheat Kings, who then decided to trade him to the Saskatoon Blades, where Ferland has been able to find some offensive rhythm. Plus Saskatoon is the host of the Memorial Cup this year, so that has to be positive for him too.

2011 Draft

Pick # 45 - C Markus Granlund (HIFK Helsinki/SM-liiga)

41 GP, 8 G + 16 A = 24 P, +5, 14 PIM

Granlund had a great WJC tournament and Weisbrod has spoken very highly of him, so my hope is that he'll be signed and he'll come to NA in the fall. His point production in the league has dropped a bit, but he has started to turn things around lately.

Pick # 57 - D Tyler Wotherspoon (Portland/WHL)

43 GP, 6 G + 26 A = 32 P, +47, 14 PIM

At this point, Wotherspoon looks like a great pick. He made the Canadian WJC team (to my surprise!) and was one of their best defensemen there. He is second in the WHL in +/- with +47 and has already hit new career bests in assists and points. One goal shy of last year's effort. I have no doubts that we'll see him in Abbotsford next year.

Pick #104 - LW Johnny Gaudreau (Boston C./NCAA)

21 GP, 13 G + 20 A = 33 P, +17, 14 PIM

Johnny Hockey. Enough said.

Pick #164 - G Laurent Brossoit (Edmonton/WHL)

37 GP, 25-6-5, .925% svs, 2.07 GAA, 4 SO

After a slow start, Brossoit has been lights out ever since being cut from Canada's WJC roster. Besides his backup Tristan Jarry, Brossoit spearheads the best tandem in the WHL. The Oil Kings could go deep in the playoffs again this year and I expect Brossoit to join Abbotsford in the fall.

2012 Draft

Pick # 21 - C Mark Jankowski (Providence/NCAA)

21 GP, 5 G + 6 A = 11 P, +4, 8 PIM

"If he could continue to hover around .5 points per game, his first season would be a success" ... that's what I said when I made this summary in November, and I stand by my word. Reports out of Providence are positive and given his young age and the huge jump from prep school, I think he has done well so far.

Pick # 42 - D Patrick Sieloff (Windsor/OHL)

44 GP, 3 G + 8 A = 11 P, -8, 85 PIM

Another player where I was surprised when he made the WJC roster, given that the Americans sent home a couple first-round picks. Winning the gold medal with the US team was surely a great experience and I am very confident that Sieloff continues to develop nicely. He is obviously better defensively than offensively ... still it's a bit worrying that he hasn't scored a goal in his last 27 games and only has 2 assists in his last 22.

Pick # 75 - G Jon Gillies (Providence/NCAA)

22 GP, 10-8-4, .927% svs, 2.18 GAA, 3 SO

Despite being a freshman coming from the USHL, Gillies has been absolutely fantastic for Providence this year right from the start. He also was a part of the US team that won the gold medal in the WJC tournament, and although he only saw action in their opening game, this experience will only help him in the future. He should be the US starter there next year.

Pick #105 - D Brett Kulak (Vancouver/WHL)

53 GP, 9 G + 23 A = 32 P, -28, 32 PIM

Kulak is having a good season, as he has already topped his numbers from last year. Unfortunately, he is playing for a team that is dead last in the WHL. Hopefully, he'll get traded in the summer - I just don't want him to be in such a losing environment.

Pick #124 - D Ryan Culkin (Quebec/QMJHL)

49 GP, 3 G + 30 A = 33 P, +12, 40 PIM

Culkin had a fantastic start to the season, but just like his team, he has slowed down over the last weeks. Still, Culkin has already topped his assists and points totals from last year and he is still 8th among defensemen in QMJHL scoring.

Pick #165 - LW Coda Gordon (Swift Current/WHL)

51 GP, 15 G + 31 A = 46 P, -8, 21 PIM

Gordon hasn't scored that many goals in comparison to last season, but has still managed to get on the scoreboard on a regular basis, mostly as a setup man for the team's top goal getter Adam Lowry. One thing that is evident though is that Gordon is a streaky player - f.e. he was extremely cold in November before really getting hot in late December/early January.

Pick #186 - C Matthew Deblouw (Michigan State/NCAA)

28 GP, 6 G + 10 A = 16 P, 18 PIM

The "Swiss Army Knife" (copyright Tod Button) has been very good for the Spartans so far after also making the jump from the USHL to college hockey. Primarily known for his two-way play and his faceoff ability, Deblouw has also contributed nicely on the scoresheet for Michigan State. A promising start for the seventh-round pick.

Others

D James Martin (Utah/ECHL)

24 GP, 0 G + 5 A = 5 P, +5, 34 PIM

Signed as a free agent last summer, Martin struggled with injuries in his first pro season for Abbotsford, but he was solid in limited action. With the addition of Lamb and a few AHL guys in Abbotsford, there wasn't a spot for him ... and with Wotherspoon and probably Ramage turning pro this summer, it won't get any easier.

RW Bryan Cameron (Utah/ECHL)

39 GP, 13 G + 18 A = 31 P, +1, 26 PIM

Was a good scorer in junior hockey, but was never able to put up good numbers in pro hockey. Stuck in the ECHL ever after playing 60 games for the Heat in 2010-11 ... probably won't return next year.

LW Turner Elson (Red Deer/WHL)

47 GP, 18 G + 22 A = 40 P, +11, 54 PIM

Elson returned to the WHL as an overager and has been the captain for the Rebels, leading the in every offensive category.

G Karri Ramo (Omsk Avangard/KHL)

38 GP, 26-8-4, .930% svs, 1.98 GAA

Excellent numbers, as always. Needs to come over in the summer.
