Great and subtle designs age well; witness the 63-67 StingRay. The C7 is too busy and over the top, it is trying too hard to be something it isn't.

That's the whole point.
It can be understated and classy, yet still completely kick ass; where a lot of NA cars are over the top in "aggressive" and look stupid.

It's like James Bond vs Tapout T shirts

It looks pretty awesome, but it's a bit garish for my tastes, and I tend to like things a bit loud. There's a nod to the GTR in that back end, and the front end screams Ferrari. Don't like the 1/4 windows, I wonder if that rear window setup adds strength and/or reduces costsand weight of a big curved backklight.

I wonder if the base model will lose a bunch of those louvers and be a bit sleaker.

I'd rather the current ZR-1, it's about as bold as I want.

This looks really similar to the Ferrari California to me:

If I wanted classy, but still capable of ass kicking, I'd go with a BMW/Mercedes/Aston Martin/Audi.

I've always thought Porsche's looked like a stretched out VW Beetle.

I really want the new Audi RS7.

Maybe we need a Detroit auto show thread.

There are so many high quality products available today we are truely living in a golden age of automobiles no matter what your flavour is. Looking for something in a 4 door "coupe" that does 0-60 under 5 seconds?

Along with the RS7:

There's the BMW M6 Gran Coupe:

And you got your Mercedes CLS55 (my favourite in this category)

And sadly, you can't get any of these cars in a manual. Thanks but no thanks.

Will GM ever put a twin turbo V6 in this car?

^ Yeah, really. No real need to post touring sedans in this thread... I don't think anyone is cross shopping those.

Once you get into full size cars, Manual transmissions become a incredibly tough sell for manufacturers/dealers. Even myself, I love manual transmission cars, but in anything bigger than a 3 series / A4, the car just doesn't seem right for some reason. Only exception to that rule for me, is an M5.

And these cars are so ridiculously powerful, and fast revving, you are taking a massive performance penalty now by selecting a manual if it has a SMG/DSG. With the exception of professional drivers, the Automatic cars will destroy their manual counterparts. And even then, they are still quicker.

Yes. But it also takes the driver out of the driving experience.

Then you don't get the "911", not being hasty, being truthful. What is your interpretation of aggressive ?

I currently own a 1984 911 Targa, previously owned a 1995 C2 Cabriolet (993) and a 1990 C4 Targa (964). I have owned a myriad of other "sports car's" but have always come back to the 911. I have also owned a 1989 944 Turbo and 1973 914 2.0L which I too enjoyed.

No, not really at all. The Gmund Coupe and early 356's used some VW bits, but never the same chassis or power plants.

This is such a common misconception as Ferdinand Porsche indeed designed the original VW Beetle.

The 911 GT2 RS begs to differ:
