Here is the usual route give or take
There is a strip between Kindersely and Hannah where you wonder if life is worth living anymore, but after that things pick up.
I haven't tried taking Stoney since it was completed though and have heard from others it is a lot faster and not bad for traffic. The only people who come in on the Trans Can belong to this hole in the ground called Regina. Also I avoid Drumheller at all costs.. I had a bathroom 'incident' there a while ago involving a nasty heroine beer induced poop where I may have scarred a little boy for life.

Yeah, I'd take that route and avoid Drumheller just because it slows you down.
That strip between Hanna and Kinderesly is mind numbing. When I go past the lonely farm houses when it's 30 below, I wonder how they can live there but that's the area my great grandparents homesteaded in the 1890s. Probably others wouldn't be comfortable where I live either, needing two BC ferry trips to get to so called civilization.

You can turn off at Sarcee and head into Beacon Hill (where the Costco is, can see it from Stoney), lots of food places in the centre, and get gas at Costco (need a membership).

Ha! I hear ya. Being a Kindersley born handsome dude, I've travelled this route many times. I got a good laugh at this sentence.

In the past I have seen google tell peopel to kayak across the ocean, it also once sent me through a farmers field (literally) to get to a lake.
So I figure it is always good to ask, thanks everyone for the tips on Stoney, and I agree about Cochrane, it used to be fast but now with all the lights and increased traffic it is almost painful.

Update: Took the Stoney trail route, was much faster than the old Cochrane way..
I was very pleased. I was a little dumbfounded by this three lane freeway, it seemed like people were just doing whatever speed they wanted in whatever lane.
Is the far left lane not still the fast lane?

I've done it a few times, best route is to go on 566 from highway 9, then go to Stoney Trail.
Oops! Didn't see that you already did the trip!

You should spend more time in the gear grinding thread...

In Saskatoon you might get shot for staying in that left lane.. even the worst of drivers know to move over. Your car will be pelted ruthlessly with half full Sner cans.. you're supposed to have 12 seconds to move, but for some reason everyone always takes 13.
Interesting.. I always thought Albertans had it going on behind the wheel... as GSP would say I am disappoint.

drives me nuts whenever I end up in Alberta...puddle jumpers in every lane.
