So I think the solution is to cut usage by 50%. Going forward we should only go to work every other day.

Maybe you are on to something. In San Jose, CR they have driving restrictions. It depends on what number your plate ends with. Everyone has 1 day a week that they cannot drive. Maybe they could apply something similar to Deerfoot.

My comment was a bit tongue-in-cheek. But truth be told I would much rather work from home.

They should do what Beijing did, only allow odd number plates drive one day, and then even number plates drive the next day. Of course, that eventually had the adverse effect where people who normally have one car bought two so they could drive both days. That just made it even worse.

Did McKnight/Deerfoot used to be a full cloverleaf? If it was, I realize why they changed it, but it's hell either way.
There's room to reclaim a lane in the median if they Jersey barrier it, then here's my idea for northbound Deerfoot from McKnight through to Beddington.
They'll need a retaining wall and it'll be a tight fit, but these basketweaves and collector/distributor kind of lanes along Crowchild work very well. Relatively cheap for huge gain.

i think there should be more lane reversals during rush hour times
another thing, as an example, I cannot stand the traffic calming measures such as on 4th st NW between 16th and 40th ave. im sure they are in a lot more areas around the city though
what are they supposed to do other than clog the traffic flow that is there and piss people off further? yeah, close a lane of traffic for no apparent reason and see how that goes.

There used to be a park right where those Crowchild coll/dist lanes are. I played there as a kid.
Not really sad, though. Progress! Houses are gone alone with the park, and Crowchild outbound flows very well.

Traffic calming everywhere drives me nuts. Why not take advantage of existing roads to distribute traffic?
Oh no... traffic is bad on your street from 5pm-6pm. Keep the kids in the back yard for a bit.

Ambitious plans for Deerfoot in the south including collector/distributor lanes, a new bridge carrying 4 lanes of SB Deerfoot over the Bow at Calf Robe, a full access interchange at Peigan/Barlow, and a mammoth interchange at Glenmore bigger than Deerfoot/Stoney in the north.

I wouldn't call it a mammoth interchange, it looks like the one already proposed a few times, more or less within its current footprint.
http://www.transportation.alberta.ca...on/glen-m2.pdf
The interchange with 50th Ave is interesting, but what I'm really interested in is what is proposed at the right side of the document: I see an over\under with Southland, but would like to see how the interchance with Anderson / Bow Bottom looks.

Up and to the Left are acceptable standards for North in plans. Landscape is always preferred to portrait for 11x17 or paper sizes of that similar ratio.

Having large displays in portrait orientation means that people have to crouch to see everything.

I tried twice to get to my office in Quarry Park from Deer Ridge.
Got as far as Canyon Meadows Drive, turned around and went home.
Finally got in at 10:30.
Looked pretty bad when I drove by...

Upon arrival, crews encountered a eight-vehicle pileup involving 16 people.
Sgt. Bob Pughe said a Nissan crossed three lanes of traffic when it was T-boned by a Dodge Caravan.
"At that time, both vehicles came to a stop in the fast lane of Deerfoot Trail and they were hit by other vehicles coming up," he said. "No one was able to stop because of the road conditions."

I know I had to use two days last winter because of driving conditions. I live in Citadel and work in Quarry Park. One of the days the plows hadn't been out, and my car was literally plowing snow on Country Hills BLVD with my bumper. Another day, Stoney trail was a sheet of ice, and my car kept veering to the ditch, so I tried to go an alternate route, but when I did a 180 turning onto Country Hills BLVD from Sarcee Trail, I decided to just go home rather than keep trying
