I believe his argument was that, since increased gun control was implemented in the UK, violent crime has gone up, which is an absolute fabrication.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datab...-england-wales

Just like everywhere else in the developing world, crime rates of all kinds in the UK have been steadily falling for years. There is no correlation at all between gun ownership and a reduction in violent crime.

Jones was ranting about his right to own guns, 2nd amendement, blah blah blah. . . Have to protect your family a la 1776 revolution, great white sharks, etc.

Funny thing is, if you never grew up with guns because a weapons ban was in place in your country, you really don't see the need for one anyways. I imagine owning a gun (for some) is akin to smoking. You defend your right to do it, knowing full well the dangers it contains, yet if you never had one, you really don't have any urge to do it.

I can't think of a single Canadian I know who needs a gun, or would ever vehemently defend the right to own guns as a basic democratic and constitutional right. We just don't do that here. Even with violent crimes happening in Canada, most of us know that street smarts, common sense, minding your own business and avoiding vulnerability keeps us 99% safe anyways. No need to pack heat, which is really one-upmanship at its worst.

Alex Jones is like the Pope of the Church of Conspiracy Theorists, I don't begrudge the fact that he's living up to PT Barnum's theory of one born every minute and made a nice living at it. But in a way its dangerous because he reaches out and stirs up the paranoid, the guillable and the just plain mentally ill.

He's the key creater in the conspiracy theory strategy of we don't have to prove anything because you can't prove that there wasn't a conspiracy handbook.

The guy is a loon and on top of that he's a frightful loon because of the segment of society that he rallies.

^ he really walks that line between free speech and yelling fire in a theatre

I think having a gun gives him the safety he needs for being a huge d***

he is a little man who wants to act like a bully but his body cant back it up so he needs a gun

Somewhere in there he said he had a talk show with an audience of over a million people.
I thought his schtick was exactly like a tv/radio evangelical preacher, just with a different message. A sucker born every minute is right.

Jones appears to be troubled by paranoid delusions, anxiety disorders and severe ADHD. Prozac may just be the prescribed medication Alex forgot to take yesterday morning.

Between that and his paid speaking engagements and his writing he makes a exceptionally good living.

whether he knows he's a con or not is another question.

That was actually pretty tame for Alex Jones. He's got a good thing going exploiting the crazy, shelter dwelling audience. I sometimes listen to him for the laughs.

From what I have read in the comments section in some articles about this latest tirade, Jones seems to have a crap load of supporters in the US.

Wasn't Beerfest a huge Alex Jones fan?

Alex Jones is the man behind infowars.com, which some folks here in the past have tried to use as a source/reference for their arguments.

Please don't think that he represents a significant, or even marginally relevant section of American society. He's a kook on the fringe.

Anyone like Alex Jones who argues that the 2nd amendment is about fighting tyranny is a fool. The 2nd amendment was about fighting tyranny.

In the 1770's American won a war against a "tyrannical" government using a rag-tag militia armed with whatever they had in the closet. In the days of Artillery, Cavalry and Infantry, a militia armed with hunting weapons could conceivably overthrow a government.

But today? What chance does an AR-15 have against a drone? Or a stealth bomber? Or a tank? Or a nuclear bomb? Or submarine launched cruise missiles? Or reconnaissance satellites?

If King George had nuclear weapons and George Washington had AR-15's, Americans would be driving on the left, playing cricket and enjoying a spot of tea.

Unfortunately, judging by the tone of the media and the political discourse, Alex Jones appears to be a kook and representative of a significant section of American society.

I went to that site and it was about what I expected. But I could not help clicking on this link I saw on the side of the page, for some reason.

So, I will save anyone the trouble of doing the same, it links to some paranoid Australian guy ranting about stuff, I did not see that girl again.

I got the sense that Piers Morgan to Alex Jones is, in the most literal sense, the tyrannical British coming back to America to try and finish the job.

It's too bad someone like Jones (apparently) has such a large following as there are millions of responsible gun owners in the States who you don't hear about because they are just that - responsible gun owners. Unfortunately they probably get lumped in with guys like Jones who get to spew their paranoia all they want in the media. Certainly contributes to polarizing the gun control debate.

Holy crap! That Alex Jones makes me glad I live in Canada.

That dude is a certified nut job. He can't be helping his cause by going off like that. If anything, making the case for stronger gun laws in the U.S.

Wasn't sure if I should new thread this, but : http://www.npr.org/2013/01/09/168926...estroying-guns

"We do believe that it is illegal for them to destroy those guns," he says.

Rathner says Arizona state law forces local governments to sell seized or abandoned property to the highest bidder.

"If property has been abandoned to the police, then they are required by ARS 12-945 to sell it to a federally licensed firearms dealer, and that's exactly what they should do," he says.
