Tarantino in N-word controversy

Jeez...who thinks Django (or any of QT's movies) have anything but a odour of historical accuracy?

If Spike Lee saw this fictional movie and saw his ancestors being depicted in a disrespectful way then he could complain.

Did anybody get bent out of shape with the way that Jews & Nazi's were depicted in Inglorious Basterds?

When our photog tried to compare QT to Steven Spielberg (who made "Amistad" in 1997), Katt shot back, "Quentin Tarantino is no Steven Spielberg. Steven Spielberg doesn't wanna be black, Quentin Tarantino thinks he is. So when he meets a real ni**a, we'll see if he is or not."

Saw the movie last night and I thoroughly enjoyed it as I enjoy most Tarantino films. Not that I haven't enjoyed some of Lee's work but for me Tarantino is simply the better film maker.

What I didn't enjoy was the asshats that decided it was an appropriate movie to bring a 1 and 5 year old to see. That annoyance turned to amusement when the theater kicked them out because, shockingly, the kids couldn't keep quiet.

A little old lady hobbled into my viewing with her family and I couldn't help but chuckle.

Gawker had an interesting article about the "Django moment". It was about whether black people should get upset about white people laughing at certain momements during Django? Obviously the hood scene and the Sam Jackson stuff was mostly done for laughter, but the authour mentioned her moment was when QT threw the dynamite at the slaves and a couple white people in the theatre laughed. It's definitely an interesting discussion.

I loved the movie (I'm a huge QT fanboy), and I though the use of ###### was appropriate. The horrific scenes (the dog, mandingo, castration etc.) and the language were necessary IMO to balance the comedic elements of the movie, so it didn't turn out to be a kind of "haha, wasn't slavery bad" and instead it really was a "holy ####, slavery was horrific". I'm glad QT didn't gloss over things and made some really uncomfortable moments.

I laughed when QT's character died. Figured it was more than appropriate after the acting he put us through for 5 minutes!

I don't recall anyone laughing in our theater over the dynamite throw. To me it was one of those uncomfortable moments. But people find different things funny. It's a reaction that at times is probably not the appropriate reaction but you laugh. It might even be hurtful but you can't read too much into such reactionary things IMO.

I think people need to be able to distinguish between laughing at the racist acts depicted and people laughing at the general absurdity and ridiculousness of racism. I know for my friend and I laughed at a couple of the really racist comments but it was more of a "Jesus Christ, people used to actually think like this...what ####ing idiots" kind of laugh than a "Haha, stupid black people" laugh.
