Plus, Obamacare did pass. So they are going down the universal health care path. The first part of your statement isn't even right.

Oh, great. They've finally decided people selling their homes to pay for cancer treatment might not be such a good idea.
America in my eyes is on the same level as Iraq, Afghanistan, and other countries living in the stone age.
Cuba FFS has some sort of universal health care program. America is a disgrace to the planet. That's my view and it it isn't changing any time soon.

That's pretty harsh, man. America may not do a very good job of taking care of their citizens, but at least they're free to take care of themselves.

*Snort* Free. Not so much.
America has lost the plot, and Obamacare isn't a part of that equation.

You really wanna go there? Other than Health Care , Gun Laws, and Boxing Day America and Canada are virtually the same. The guys is comparing America to Iraq and Afghanistan. What argument is gonna change that view? I am pretty sure no one else here shares that view.
Minnie you're American? You don't think we have freedoms? I'm curious if you have been anywhere outside of Canada or the US and seen the difference in how we live ... say somewhere like Cuba that Iginla speaks so fondly of.
P.s Being able to say this

Is a freedom people in some countries don't have.

I think comparing the USA to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Cuba is pretty ridiculous, and I think it's a non-starter to go down that path.
However, when you do compare the US to a lot of western countries....think Sweden, Germany, Canada, Australia, Norway etc in terms of the important things in life (health care, jobs, security, etc.), it definitely doesn't stack up as well as it used to. I'm a big fan of the US and think it has a lot of wonderful things going for it. However, it definitely feels like it's rotting a bit from the inside these days....a country living on past glory that feels lost.
Having said that, if I was rich, there is no doubt I'd be buying a place in NYC tomorrow (even though NY is not really indicative of America). If you can buy your way out of lives problems, America is pretty grand.

Don't get me wrong - there are some major societal issues in the United States that need to be addressed, however to say that they are on the same level as countries like Iraq and Afghanistan (both places I will assume you have no experience with by the way) because there are some people who can't afford cancer treatments is somewhat ignorant. The fact is that there are cancer treatments that do exist and there is some form of health care available for those in the United States who are unable to afford it in the form of Medicare.
This isn't a rah-rah-USA-#1 type of post but your hate filled rant is a little much and over the top with hyperbole but while I try not to care too much about who the poster is and rather focus on what they say that seems to be a trademark of your posts.
I do think that Canada and the USA are quite similar in a number of respects - however there appears to be a widening gulf between the nations, although it could just appear that way due to the more vocal crazy aspect which is present in the right wing down south

There is also a faction in the left like that as well. I do think the view you see is due to either end of the spectrum being ridiculous. I think for the most part people are pretty close to the middle. I consider myself a right winger and highly conservative but if you gave me a truth serum you would find that I agree with things from the left side. I think the majority of people from both sides are like that.

I am sure the Cubans are happy as can be that their dental bill was free after having their teeth pulled by the police because their relatives left to the USA.

That isn't the only argument left but considering the crap contained in Iginla's post it is a pretty appropriate response.

Americans hate gays - check
Americans have no universal health care plan - check
areas with extreme poverty (mostly in African American neighborhoods) - check
Gun laws that are an embarassment - check
You couldn't pay me to live in this dirt hole of a country. Sure there are some states that are nice, if you have money, but that still doesn't make it a nice country. A disgraceful country, it really is.

I like Americans, but in general I think they have a problem questioning themselves and get overly defensive and illogical when someone doesn't think the US is the greatest country in the world. I think part of the problem is a lack of education about other countries. When you realize you're not that special, I think you start acting more reasonable. This goes for people and countries.

You are saying that a country is a dirt hole because of slavery that happened 150 years ago? No one is saying that America is perfect - but if your rationale is based on slavery from 150 years ago it feels like you are taking a piss, seriously, no one can be that stupid.
Also, shockingly enough, much like some Americans, some Canadians, Swedes, Mexicans, Chinese and Australians also hate homosexuals - shockingly enough being a bigot isn't determined by geographical or political boundaries. Are you honestly serious though in your personal assessment?

Well, you best be packing you bags, because slavery and racism certainly have existed here as well. Albeit the US has some very serious challenges going forward, the comparisons to middle eastern terrorist states is ludicrous. Do not forget about all the freedom and piece of mind we enjoy because of the US and their Military might right next door to us. I may disagree with a lot of the US's policies, but be careful.... we don't exist as is without them.
