So I've started looking into rooting the Nexus 4 and getting some of the performance enhancements they bring. Anyone with some experience in that want to give me a short 'make sure you don't' list?

Loving the phone so far. I am not having any battery issues yet. Mainly browsing, playing games and emailing.
Anyone have any must have android app suggestions? Most of the lists I find have most of the apps that come with my phone stock.

Don't what to turn this thread into that, there is a pretty big Android App thread but for books/reading The Amazon Kindle, Aubile audio book apps are great. The BBC news app is good because of the widget. For Podcasts I use Pocket Casts. TransitHub is fantastic for Calgary Transit.
Zedge is a good little App for wallpapers, ringtones, notification sounds. An App like this is why I prefer Android. The ease of which I can get a new ringtone and put it on my phone is great. Zedge isn't on iOS.
Unified Remote is neat for controlling your computer with your phone. Ditto for Xbox Smart Class.
HD and Beautiful Widgets are good for Widgets too.
Jealous.

I looked for an Android app thread and couldn't find one, but our are you just referring to the big Android thread?

Don't know about the "do nots" but read the OP clearly, then the thread if you're looking for more info, and always use the search button before posting a question.
That usually covers your ass.
Oh, and "don't be afraid to try but always have a backup in case you screw up" is solid advice I've found.

Finally switched and starting using it as my regular phone.
Difficult device to use one handed, just too big. Really miss the home button, using the button on the side is a pain.
Really like the bigger screen though, and things like surfing do feel faster than the 4.
Gets quite warm under heavy use, and the battery life is atrocious, charged it, went to a Christmas get together, 3-4 hours of party type use (some surfing, some streaming music to a bluetooth speaker, etc) and I was down to 50%. Hopefully my regular usage pattern is better.
It's a great device to use though, and isn't quite as bad as I'd thought in terms of carrying it around in a pocket or whatever, don't notice the difference that much. Crazy slippery though.

This phone needs a bumper. It is so slippery, it has fallen from 30" probably 12+ times in the one month I've had it. If you combined the number of times all my previous phones in the past 10 years have fallen off a table, it's probably around 5 due to my clumsiness.
I'm almost ready to call this a design flaw. I can't imagine how many phones have broken because this thing is so slippery. Someone must have put this thing on a table during testing and have it slide off. And of course Google can't supply any bumpers.
I hopped on eBay and bought this hideous thing:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...#ht_2995wt_960
I just can't risk it anymore. This phone is going to break unless I get a bumper on it stat.

So I just got the Nexus 7 and Memory Express wanted 30 bucks for a plastic face protector. It was such a cash grab that I had to check twice to make sure I wasn't in the Superstore Liquor store! Anyway, does anyone have some good advice on cases and screen protectors?

I have two of these Portenzo cases in Black exterior and Sky blue interior:
http://shop.portenzo.com/hardback-for-nexus/
I'll sell you one below cost if that is something you fancy. Never been used. I must have hit the shipping button twice. They charged me twice and sent me two.
To Be Quite Honest I don't use a case on it. I found the Portenzo case to be a PITA because the Nexus 7 basically stays in my apartment. I don't really need a case for it and found i'd rather mess around with it without a case.
If I was traveling frequently with it I would put the case on. It would work well for that.

I've always liked SGP screen protectors:

I've always hated all screen protectors. They just scratch 10x easier than glass, which is actually fairly hard. If you're going to throw a tablet into a bag of scratchy things, I'd just get some kind of sleeve or case for it. Unless you have a habit of randomly scraping various gemstones across your screens...

Everybody has their own preference of course but sand surprisingly gets everywhere.

My iPhone 4 has never been outside my pocket by itself (except for lint maybe) and I had scratches on it within a week of getting it, I found the iPhone glass quite soft.
So far nothing on the Nexus 4, but in that case I want a screen protector so it isn't quite so slippery.

Guh battery life on this sucks! Turned off Google Now, how about Bluetooth, does that usually drain a lot? On my iPhone 4 I left it on all the time for my car stereo as the battery drain wasn't noticeable.
EDIT: Scratch that, bluetooth has been off.

I use "easy battery saver" and it's managed my battery drain well. On normal mode I need to plug my phone every day and a half. (It's not a nexus however.)

Had an idea!

Google Now - if your location is on - uses serious battery over the course of a day.
