I always think about the time that he said Canadian workers don't work hard enough and need to be more like the "Asians who sleep next to their machines". Never mind the racist element, but has he ever had to do 12-16 hour days of physical labour in his life?
I actually think some of his fiscal decisions are good, but he is very unlikable as a person.

Oh wow, I haven't heard that one before.
Yeah, I don't know if he should be one to talk about doing hard labour.

Here are a few of his quotes that show why he rubs people the wrong way:
http://www.stoprobford.ca/whats-wrong-with-rob-ford
His hatred for cyclists and buses is also very bizarre. He is always complaining about them and saying we should get rid of them I am on Blackberry, so won't link, but I am sure the quotes are easy to find.. He doesn't get that some people need them and can't afford cars.

He probed whether Ford’s actions could be considered inadvertent or an error. But, on the witness stand, there was this exchange between Magder’s lawyer, Clayton Ruby, and Ford:
Ruby: So your speaking and voting were deliberate acts, correct?
Ford: I’m voting because I know my foundation . . . it’s a fantastic foundation.
Ruby: You deliberately chose to make the speech you did and vote the way you did?
Ford: Absolutely.
Ruby: And you don’t regret for a moment having done that?
Ford: Absolutely not.
Ford had kicked down the final protection with one last defiant statement.
Knowing all of the above, and following the dictate of the law, Hackland found Ford guilty and ordered his removal from office by Dec. 10. On Wednesday, Ford will seek to suspend that decision, pending an appeal to be heard Jan. 7.
Stating the obvious, as kindly as he could put it, Hackland wrote in his decision:
“It is difficult to accept an error in judgment defence based essentially on a stubborn sense of entitlement (concerning his football foundation) and a dismissive and confrontational attitude to the integrity commissioner and the code of conduct. In my opinion, (Ford’s) actions were characterized by ignorance of the law and a lack of diligence in securing professional advice, amounting to willful blindness.”
|
The guy was regularly warned that he was flaunting City integrity protocols, and all those around him were trying to actually help him from this fate. He was too stubborn, ignorant, and ultimately arrogant to understand what was really at stake.
Just a complete buffoon.

He says some really stupid and offensive things (he thought Lake Manitoba was in Ontario). He couldn't kick off pride day, as traditionally the mayor does, because he was going out to his cabin and wanted to beat traffic (it was literally a block from his office)..
He has also gotten rid of a lot of bike paths (13km so far) and it seems like weekly, we are hearing about cyclists in Toronto being killed. Then there is his refusal to pay back the 3000 dollars. Ford is a very wealthy man and grew up with a silver spoon, so while some of his fiscal decisions might be necessary, he comes off as uncaring and very arrogant.

Giving citizens the finger, running at journalists with fists cocked, making up a phony problem of the 'gravy train', stubbornly and besides all logic refusing the endorse the light rail transit plan for a much more expensive and less useful subway so that suburban commuters wouldn't be impacted, etc etc etc

Toronto voters who voted him in have no one to blame but themselves. Or does the now-crying media for not checking this guy out enough prior to taking office.
Other issues aside, with him not sending that note on City letterhead, they'd be stuck with him and his way (and the slanted individual optics that people now have of him) of running the city.
As part of this, I also think there is a vocal element in that city, who, while ignoring the democratic process, didn't ever like having a balding fat white guy mayor, and equated him to a redneck instantly. They figure Toronto is much more "sophisticated" than that as a leading world city (in their inflated self-worth), should have someone more "worldly" and "interesting" (ala Nenshi) in some regard, if nothing other then just appearances, to represent them.
This is that same element jumping on this most fiercely, and piling on the other reasons that, in their opinion, he should go.

Unless the Star is making up quotes I don't think their political views have any impact on this. Ford while having good intentions comes off as looking like a complete buffoon 90% of the time and this is a prime example. He wilfully disregarded the laws and then blamed a left-wing conspiracy when he was called on it... and the sad thing is - it was over $3000, not a huge number for him to just pay and admit he made a mistake.

Hopefully Ford gets re-elected again because if nothing else he does a great job of pissing off so many smug d-bags that need pissing off.
Don't know or care if he is a good mayor or not (although most complaints about him have bee of the who gives a f variety) but as long as he keeps ticking off left wing hippies, cyclists and d-bags then hopefully he has a long, long political career.

No kidding what a shameful embarrassing thing to say. You call that civic engagement? Hoping that your 'team' screws the other and that's why you support them? Grow up.

He's the mayor of a city 3,000 kms away from where I live and that I will likely not go to during the time he is mayor, why would I care if he is a good mayor or not?
I would rather keep reading the hilarious stories he provides and the grumpy posts on facebook from people he has equally little impact on.

I'm more than familiar with the Star. This article was written in tremendous detail and is pretty damning of his behavior. If anything in there was incorrect, I look forward to hearing Ford and his posse's side. I have the feeling that Ford doesn't have much to dispute though.

I am just getting over a cold but that isn't too bad.

Not really.
I haven't seen a ton of comments on whether Ford should or shouldn't be re-elected so not sure there is anything to be contrary on but there was certainly plenty of people saying that he shouldn't have to resign which while not the same as my position could be considered somewhat similar.
Either way there really isn't a consensus to be contrary to everyone else.
