Redford Accused of Conflict of Interest
Alison Redford has been accused of intervening on behalf of the government to ensure her ex-husband's law firm was granted a multimillion dollar lawsuit case.
Government spokesperson is denying. Memo signed by Redford seems to say she did intervene. Redford still MIA.

Is anyone willing to wager that her response is that she was unaware that her ex-husband worked for the consortium?

All I can say is that I didn't vote for the woman.
I made my choice to switch from CP to WildRose two elections ago.. and nothing I've seen or heard has made me regret my decision... in fact its been reinforced.

Maybe my experience with ex-spouses (through siblings being divorced) is different than the rest of the populations, but I find it highly unlikely that anyone would do a favor this big for someone they couldn't even stand living with.

Maybe she was trying to get him back?
Realistically, this is why conflict of interest rules exist. To protect everyone involved including the person in conflict. Even if they do everything right and make their decision with no bias there will always be someone who looks at it and sees a bias.
The idea is to avoid not just impropriety but the appearance of impropriety as well.

Spousal support is determined by income, therefore doing something to improve the ex's income, even if you hate the ####### is putting money in your own pocket

hmmmmmm i don't follow this stuff closely enough. But does it not seem like every little while there are more and more allegations about questionable sketchy things going on under Redford?

Let's see if she uses the Rob Ford defense that it's a 'left wing' conspiracy out to get her!

Let's face it - you'll vote for whichever party is the most right wing. Not much thought goes into it.
So what happens if there is a conflict of interest? Will she resign? Or get booted? Or swept under the rug?

My guess is she denies knowing anything about it.

“Ex-spouses are not included in the Conflict of Interest Act and Mr. Hawkes [Redford’s former husband] will not be working on this file."

Seems to be much ado about nothing I'd say.

If this were a Smith run government with a similar headline I imagine your response would be
'Isn't it possible that this is the best firm for the job and they were picked in spite of the previous relationship rather than because of it. '

Helping her ex does seem pretty odd. The part about making the extra cash from alimoney since he'll earn more seems like a stretch because she obviously earns good coin, and he's a lawyer so no doubt he's already earning nice money. It doesn't seem like enough money for the risk it presents (although politicians have never been known for their wise nature in these things). Sounds like this will blow over in a day or two.

What's so odd about helping your ex? I'm pretty good friends with my ex of 8 years. I'd give her business if the opportunity arose.
edit* business, not business. Actually yeah, business, too.

Isn't there also some on-going investigation into her sister donating money illegally to her campaign?
Not saying she's guilty or a bad person, but where there's smoke...
