The only guy in this thread bashing on Tracy is Titov... not saying he's wrong, but does anyone have an alternate viewpoint?

edit: I'm not saying I'm for Tracy, I just don't know anything about him other than Titov hate!

Actually, in some ways, adding the payroll to the jays is a good investment. They have 30+ million people to draw from nation wide for their broadcasts. Viewership is only going to go up, as will merchandise, ticket sales, etc. etc.

their 'local' market is top 5 as it's considered all of Canada

I don't really know much about him, but I've seen a lot of negative comments from posters on other sites, particularly on DJF.

You can go back in the thread and see a pretty detailed post about Keith Law's thoughts on him. Tracy is not highly thought of as a manager at all. You're going to be incredibly hard pressed to find someone that will praise the man.

Melky deal is official. I suspect the press conference tomorrow will give us a lot of information as people have begun to speculate on why none of the players will be there tomorrow. Buehrle is unhappy about the trade and instead of bringing all the players but him to Toronto, they don't want to single him out. I think that's quite a reach, but who knows, it is certainly weird. Seems like every other player is thrilled to be a Jay from that trade and Melky must be happy if he signed that deal.

The assurance from Alex Anthopoulos given to Jose Bautista when the star right-fielder signed his $65-million, five-year extension two springs ago was that when the time was right, the Toronto Blue Jays would load up for a big run.

"Anytime you are going to set yourself up for a long time to an organization, you’re going to ask what the plans are for the future," Bautista said in an interview. "You don’t want to set yourself up to lose, so yeah those comments were made, and the trust was there, and I believed when he told me that he would make this club into a contender.

"He did tell me that it wasn’t going to happen overnight but when the time was right and the pieces were in place, I am going to attempt to make those moves obviously while seeking permission from ownership. It happened, that’s all I can say."

"Going into next year, we were all going to be excited about our team, and now all this happens, and I guess a nice way to put it, and a humble way to say it, is that my level of confidence as an athlete has just been quadrupled and I don’t say that lightly," said Bautista. "I mean, it’s the honest truth."

The only known candidates to interview for the job are Brian Butterfield, Luis Rivera and Tim Wallach, with Don Wakamatsu also thought to be in the mix. The Blue Jays see value in previous managerial experience, but it’s not a prerequisite for the job.

"I think everyone is going to be so relaxed because we have such a good amount of elite players in our lineup now that everybody is just going to go out and have fun and not worry about doing anything out of the ordinary or above and beyond their natural capabilities."

Was never a big fan of his the first go round, guess we'll see how it goes. Hopefully he can avoid fighting his own players again.

I'm shocked. For everything that has went right so far this offseason, I'm not sure this is the right move. There are better candidates available, again imo.

One thing about Gibbons, the team put up some their best records over the past 15 years with him as manager.

I always liked gibbons. He managed the jays to their best record of the 2000s I believe, and he's getting a team that's even better on paper than the one he had.

I don't believe anyone is left on the team from his previous tenure aside from Frasor and Janssen, and I can't see either of those guys having a problem with him.

Yeah, an unexpected choice, but the team did overachieve with him at the helm. I'm guessing his leash won't be exceptionally long though.

Never saw that coming. Kinda feel neutral about it. He's the kind of guy that might be good to keep some of the younger guys in line although I don't like how often he has gotten in physical fights with players in the past, not the most level headed guy out there. Also he hasn't had a managerial job since the Jays except in double A where his team stunk.

Hillenbrand and Lilly are both idiots so I don't really hold those incidents against him although challenging them to fights was not real bright.
