The reviews on battery life aren't great. Both Engadget and Gizmodo's reviews mention that it didn't last nearly as long as they expected. Engadget saying that the battery "almost got us a full day of use" isn't particularly encouraging.

Hopefully it's a software issue that will get sorted out because other than the potential battery issue it looks like a fantastic device.

Another thing, albeit small, is that I don't like headphone jacks on the top. I much prefer the jack to be at the bottom. I think it's much more natural to plug your headphone into the bottom of the phone, it looks silly dangling from the top IMO.

So, wtf is SlimPort?

The Verve has their review out, only skimmed to the battery stuff to compare, I'll go through all this stuff later when I get a chance.

Battery life was also top notch. I'm used to getting just about a day of use on my Galaxy Nexus (that's taking it off of the charger around 8AM or 9AM, and putting it back on around 2AM). Some days it doesn't quite make it that long, depending on my workload. The Nexus 4 fared much better. At the time of this writing, I've had it off of its charger for 10 hours and 30 minutes and it's still got 45 percent battery life. Yesterday before I plugged it in, I'd had it off the charger for 16 hours, with 18 percent of its juice left. To say it's holding up for full work days would be an understatement; even with heavy use, this battery more than pulls its weight.

Yeah, I seemed to remember reading that the battery life was fine in other articles about the phone. That's why I was kind of struck by both the Engadget and Gizmodo reviews that came out today. Looking at other reviews from today it seems like the battery life has been pretty good.

Not to mention battery life is kind of hard to really key in on in a few days. What a reviewer might classify as "normal" usage during a review period might actually still be very heavy use since they're trying to analyze the device for an article.

Yeah, still think the Nexus 7 is better. Better price too, although the price of the Nexus 10 is pretty good.

These reviews will just mean I'll have to hold back and see what it's really like as a shipped device.

There's definitely some questions with how strange some of the bench marks are lower than the nearly identical Optimus G

Azure, you posted this in the Android thread but I wanted to repost it here as it applies to the Nexus 4, for me atleast.

Google Music now available in Canada!

This is pretty sweet, I was never worried about the 16GB nexus 4 but it makes me think about going with the 8GB and save 50 bucks! I still have over 4gigs of space on my current 16GB phone.

Good news, going to update the App now.

If you wanna start uploading before the 13th, you can use the guide here: http://startyouth.com/tech/2012/02/a...out-of-the-us/

You just need to hide your ip to download the app, and you can upload away.

Yeah, if you can't wait till the 13th, just install Hotspot Shield or something, and download the music manager. From there you just select the folder with all your music, and the program uploads it to your Google Music account. I have almost 10,000 songs on there, and it works great.

I have an older phone, but the Google Music app responds pretty quickly for me if I have a good connection. I'd imagine on a newer phone like the S3 or Nexus 4, the app would be even quicker.

Just signed up, and disappointed that it looks like it actually uploads your music.. I was hoping it would be more like Apple's match and scan your library but give you access to a standard library of media.. This way is much slower.

They announced that feature is coming soon.

Europe first (Nov 13), other places later.

Wait, so this Google music is the same as iTunes Match, except that it actually uploads your songs rather than match them, and it is free?

That might seal the deal for me on switching to Android.

edit: Looks like it might not be coming to Canada at all

What a roller coaster...

Looks like it will be coming (we knew that) but not sure when (again) that's a shame.

It really doesn't matter whether Google makes it available in Canada or not unless you want to buy music from them. If you're looking at it more as a backup/cloud streaming option then it still works fine as long as you use a proxy or VPN to do the initial signup.

The web interface for managing your music is pretty terrible, so make sure your tags and cover art are impeccable before uploading. Mine were and even then I had to manually go through and fix some stuff and that really wasn't a lot of fun. Uploading also takes forever. Still though, it's free and it's something I'll only really have to do once and now I have about 40GB of music backed up and available anywhere in the world.

Also, even if you don't use an Android device or have a mix of Android and iOS stuff, there are 3rd party Google Music apps for iOS. I don't have a ton of experience with them, but the ones I've played around with seemed decent enough, so I wouldn't let which devices you have influence whether or not to try it out. Hell, even if you never stream stuff from it, using it as a cloud backup is worth the trouble alone IMO.

Looks like they just posted an update to this post, and now it's not coming to Canada, was on error on Google's part to post Canada.

I guess Google still has deals to work out with the Canadian music labels or something which is why they can't release it here in Canada.

Is everyone reading this thread still going to get the Nexus 4 or have the reviews soured your taste?

I'm still getting it. That's an odd question, I haven't seen any "poor" reviews.

The two main negatives that have been pointed out are
-Storage size
-lack of LTE

Neither are an issue for me. My current phone is 16gb and that isn't close to full either. My provider doesn't have LTE.

Most places gave it mostly glowing reviews but then focused on the two main issues.

Personally I am a little worried about the glass back. The phone looks beautiful but I'm more about if I'll crack the back.

The price though... jesus the price. Hard to pass up.
