Haha fair enough I guess.. I think a big part of it is because the first 4-5 Bond movies I ever saw were with him, so I probably just associated "Bond" with Moore.
Also, in all the time I've been here I can't believe I just noticed now your handle's MrMastadon, not McMastadon. That's my random observation of the day..
Same here. The first movie I saw was For Your Eyes Only. Because of that and The Spy Who Loved Me, the Lotus was my favorite Bond car for a while. But looking back, the Moore years were as campy as Batman and Robin.

I never got that one. Is supposed to sound like genuflect? That would kind of make sense.
Anyways, I heard the Adele song, that's a pretty impressive song. I'm not really a fan of hers, but she's perfect for James bond themes. I think she should do them all from now on.

Yeah, she almost has a Shirley Bassey vibe in that song.

So I went to the Midnight screening of Skyfall last night, and overall it was quite good. Maybe not as great as expected, but still worth watching. Probably about on the Casino Royale level, just without Eva Green.
I guess the main issue I had is that it ripped off so many movies, from Mission Impossible, to Dark Knight, to even Home Alone at the end. It was interesting that they explored some of Bond's and M's origins, but I think they could have gone a bit further with the whole rebirth/Resurrection vibe they were going for. At least Nolan spent time exploring Bruce/Bats being broken, with Skyfall Bond was pretty much his old self 5 minutes after being thought dead.
I have never been the biggest Bond fan, and believe the Bourne movies and a couple of the Mission Impossible movies were better than Skyfall; but still the acting was top notch, and the action scenes and visuals were quite impressive on the Imax screen.
But yeah... this really fits the ending well.

was kind of surprised to be able to see this today as I thought it didn't come out till tomorrow, but i really enjoyed it, acting well done, and think it is definitely on par with the previous 2 bond movies (haven't seen them recently), from what I remember this beats the last one (quantam of solice?)
I'm not really sure I agree with trackercowe that it ripped off so many movies, really didn't get that feel during watching it, (and yes I have seen those you mentioned).
Saw it. Loved it. One thing that stood out was that it was still gritty, still relatively realistic like the 2 previous Bond movies(no invisible car or Bond skiing down the edge of a collapsing iceberg), but with just the right amount of cheese to let you know you're still watching a James Bond movie.
8.5/10. Definitely worth seeing and it's awesome on an IMAX screen.
I saw it, and liked it. But I can't help but feel a little... underwhelmed? After all the amazing reviews and hype built up, I was expecting to be really blown away. Not as good as Casino, I think.
Some thoughts, in spoilers cause it's just coming out:
Spoiler!
No explanation on how he survived two gunshots, a hundred foot fall, and being unconscious underwater? Nope, he's just okay...
The komodo dragon part was corny. Like Roger Moore corny.
There really wasn't a Bond girl.
Bardem was brilliant as Silva, but why spend all this time establishing this really awesome/sinister villain, who is an amazing hacker that can do anything, who has a list of every secret agent in the world, and whose ultimate goal is.... to kill M.
Why bother even stealing the list of agents in the first place? You could've just hacked MI6 and blown it up and they'd still come after you, list or not. And then Bond's ultimate plan is... to take on Silva and his army of like fifteen guys, working together with two 70-year-olds, in the middle of nowhere.
There really wasn't a redemption scene kind of thing... they spend half the movie talking about how he failed all his exams and shouldn't be in the field, and we see him struggling a bit. Then he owns like three guys, captures Silva, and the next day is chasing him through London, and beating all his men at his old house. I guess all he needed to do was shave?
Too many cornball lines. Wasn't the point of Casino Royale to move away from that stuff?
Also, thanks for killing off the old bag so we can finally get someone who actually makes sense in the role of M.
Still lots of excellent action scenes, some nice throwbacks, really good effects. Loved the score too. Just a lot of complaints too.

Yeah, a little explanation would have been nice.

No way was it Roger Moore corny, but yeah, seemed a little out of place.

I think Silva was not only trying to kill M, but also ruin her legacy. If he just kills her, she's remembered for doing great work. But if she's responsible for the killing of undercover agents and at the helm during this terror attack on MI6, he's messing with her reputation.

At the end of it, it's still a fun movie, and there was just the right amount of cheese and cornball stuff to let you know it's still a James Bond movie. Bond is a character who is quick witted with a lot of charm. A super serious Bond movie is good, but this is good as well. They were bordering on having too many though, I'd concede that.

Yeah it was a little slow at first. But as soon as Javier showed up as Silva, I thought the movie ramped up like 1000% and was awesome from there on out. He was one crazy #######!
