That's a good deal.
Aviles would've got 2.5-3 million, and Izturis gets 3.33 instead and they're basically the same player. So basically we got Rogers for .83 million and Yan Gomes. Not bad.

I suppose its a good deal but Izturis is nothing special imo. I've watched him play lots over the past several years. This is basically the Jays lineup move, all the attention now turns to pitching. Unless there are more trades.

Not to mention Izturis is a better defender and gets on base at a much better clip than Aviles.
Good move for the Jays. Not a flashy move at all but it fills a need.

I'm not going to argue that Izturus is a bad contract signing...because the contract was a good one, but he's not really an upgrade at 2nd. IMO, he's still one of the weaker links on our team as a batter in the starting lineup.

It is disappointing, but you can get away with a mediocre player or two as long as you're doing alright in other areas. Getting a quality LF and DH platoon guy will be more important now if Izturis is a starter.

The move is judged better at the end of the offseason, as are most. And right now he is an upgrade over the awful season Kelly Johnson had, not by much but looking at the numbers, Kelly Johnson just gave up it seems.
No other Blue Jays related rumors really going around now. This is a sign this team will be active however, as small as it may be. Still a lot of work to be done to fix a ton of holes on a team.
Ahhh a moment of clarity:
“Once the Aviles trade was made, Izturis we felt was really the only guy we felt could do what Mike did."
Makes a little more sense to me with this perspective considering Izturis is even more versatile then Avilies in terms of his defensive positioning. An upgrade over Mike McCoy to say the least

Just from AA's style, I would be surprised in the least if AA adds to the payroll by making a huge deal, rather than a signing. He seems to love making deals, and I'm sure he didn't trade Aviles and signing Izturis without having a DH or 1B deal in mind. I have no idea who to expect he'll make a deal for, but I'm sure it's a bat, while he'll probably add to the pitching though the FA market.
