That's because for all the "success" he has had he has had a lot more failure.

Huff to announce his starting QB tomorrow and by the sounds of it, whoever it is, will not have a short leash.

As much as I can't stand him I can't see how it is not Glenn.
It is by far the safest choice and in the CFL there is plenty of time to put Tate in if needed.
If he puts Tate in and it goes bad there is way too much to second guess.
Either QB should be good enough to beat the Priders if they go with what works in Cornish and Lewis and straight up defense to nullify the pop gun Prider offense.

I agree with moon, I'd be quite surprised if Tate got the start. Go with Glenn and if things aren't working, put in Drew.

^ Wow. All I have to say is Tate better be bringing us back a Grey Cup from Toronto or Huff is going to be under a lot of criticism for going with a guy who hasn't even started a full season's worth of games in his career.

Glen played the whole season and did his part in carrying the team here. I figured he would be more prepared for this situation than Tate is.

Wow, I think that is a huge mistake. He hasn't looked ready in the time he's gotten at the end of the season. His timing hasn't quite been there

My thoughts too. I feel bad for Glenn. He's done an admirable job getting the squad where they are and I think he deserves the start.
If Tate starts to falter on Sunday, I hope Hufnagel doesn't wait too long to throw Glenn in.

Is it possible Huff is blowing smoke and he's making the Riders prepare for Tate but Glenn will actually get the start?

WOW is the response I got from #Riders gm Brendan Taman when I told him Drew Tate getting the start vs his team.
|
Quote:
Count #Lions gm Wally Buono as another gm surprised Tate getting the start. This morning Bouno was sure it would be Glenn.

Tamen also asked "Are you kidding" when informed of Tate decision. I think Riders were getting ready for Glenn.

Huff will know after a quarter if Drew is getting the job done. If it isn't working put in K.G.

Guess you have to go with the QB you think gives you the best chance of winning.
Glenn performed admirably all season long, led the team to the playoffs, and likely deserves to get this start but if you think you can win a Grey Cup with Tate you have to make that decision.

I am not surprised at all. Tate is a better QB than Glenn.

Quite the ballsy decision by Huff; definitely not the safe call. I like it though. As big as a win against the Riders would be on Sunday, I think we can get that win with either Tate or Glenn at the helm. This decision is about playing BC, on the road, with a chance to get to the Grey Cup. With that, I think you go with the upside of Tate (who would have the momentum of coming off a playoff win) over the game manager in Glenn.
In the two regular season games against BC this year (that actually mattered), Glenn was pretty average:
7/28 BC 19-28, 245 yards, 0 TD 1 INT - 34-8 loss
10/6 @BC 18-33, 242 yards, 1 TD 2 INT - 27-22 loss
I also wonder how much of it is a mental decision -- preferring to start the fiery Tate with the even-keeled Glenn in the bullpen, or vice versa. Despite what happened in last year's playoffs, I think you try to start fast with Tate and if that falters, you've got Glenn ready to go. Again, the safe play would have been to do the opposite, but I'm sure Huff has the pulse of what the room thinks and whether one strategy is better than the other.

I thought about this as well, but it's not like the two quarterbacks have dramatically different gameplans. Also, unless you're going to close practice all week, I think it'll be obvious who is getting first string reps versus second string reps. That's not something you'd mess with simply to play mind games with the other team.

I don't disagree with you that Drew Tate might be better QB. He is younger, more mobile and he's got the arm BUT he only played two games and to tell you the truth I was not that impressed with him especially the last game. He made some plays but he tends to like to throw more than using his huge asset in Jon Cornish running the ball. I think if Tate played the last 5 games I wouldn't have any problem with his starting. I am not a big Glenn fan but if it wasn't for him, i am not even sure we would have make it so why not give him the start and when he is not producing after the 1st quarter or the half, pull him out and replace him with Drew Tate. I just hope this is not the Deja Vu from last season.
Anyways, I am not the coach and whoever start the game won't stop me from cheering for the Stamps on Sunday.
GO STAMPS GO!!

If the Stamps don't win the Grey Cup, his decision would have been a lose-lose proposition either way.

Tate will get hurt in the first series, and Glenn will save the day. Again.
