Generally the girls/woman I've hooked up with have propably been about +/- 2 years to my age, even though I don't know the exact age in all cases. One notable exception was four years younger than me, but that's about it.
I don't have a rule, it's just the way I roll. I'm 34 now.

I'm marrying a girl 5.5 years younger than me (I know CP, those familiar are probably really shocked by this ) and the part that bugs me the most is knowing that I'll likely leave her behind, alone, and dealing with all my junk one day.
Here's hoping for a fiery car wreck when we are both 110.

So since she is 5.5 years younger than you, how does that work?

that's easy.... hulkrogan is in an urn in the passenger seat and the mrs gets in a car crash.... seriously - i can only imagine seeing a 110 year old ripping it up on glenmore trail!
or.....
after a lifetime of work, hulkrogan finally perfects this.....
at the age of 110 he goes into the future 5.5 years, picks up his wife (so they are both 110) and then things go terribly wrong as he attempts 88mph on glenmore trail

My wife's mother was five years older than her husband and in her early 20s when they married. It doesn't seem like much now, but back then it was scandalous. It turned out fairly well, I'd say. They were married for almost 60 years before my mother-in-law died. (KTrain photoshopped her photo for me for the funeral, for which the family was very appreciative.) Their children must have got the hint because two of the three girls married younger men, including my wife. Age doesn't much matter. Other stuff is more important.

As long as she's of legal age why does there have to be a rule?

I agree in principle. As long as they're both of consenting age and there isn't a creepy power dynamic going on where the older partner is obviously taking advantage of someone much younger then it shouldn't matter. It all depends on the people involved and where they're at in life.
When I was in my mid-late twenties I started seeing a girl who was 17. We had a lot of fun together and really clicked as a couple, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little insecure about sleeping with a girl who wasn't even out of high school while I was looking for grad schools to attend. And not being able to go to bars or bring her to hang out with my friends at adult events was a bit of a pain, but we found a way to make it work and the relationship ended up lasting for three years. Her maturity (and perhaps my own immaturity, to a certain extent) helped bridge the age gap considerably.

Being an Older Brother who is 7 years older, I couldn't date (if I was still single) anyone who is younger than my sibling.

Half your age +7 is a good rule of thumb.

Whatever man. I often mention Airwolf to my girlfriend, saying things like "this reminds of Airwolf" then I start humming the Airwolf theme. She has no idea what Airwolf is. Do I care? Pssh. No.
