How did you get through university with such atrocious spelling?

Haha for me anyway I think that was a byproduct of my best friend when I was a kid being a fat, mostly uncoordinated kid who happened to love sports as much as me so we always played street hockey/hoops, etc.. I'd just own him in everything so I probably assumed I was destined for glory.

Then I started playing rec hockey in Pee-wee & in my first year, after tryouts I got put on a division 8 team, and quickly realized I had been living a lie..

Similar thing happend to me with soccer.
I thought I was great because I missed tryouts one year and got put on a Div 5 team where I proceeded to rack up goals like it was going out of style. Naturally I thought the next year I'd be in div 1. When I did show up at try outs I was put on a div 3 team where I proceeded to score a grand total of a 1 goal. I still blame that coach! I scored in our first game playing striker and he proceeds to move me to midfield for the rest of the season. BS.

I always wanted to be a Scientist. And rich. My idea of a scientist though was to be the first person on Mars. Or work with animals. Or time travel. I even tried to figure out how to split a water molecule in grade 3. Best I could come up with was electricity.
I'm now a geologist at an Oil and Gas company. I think my younger self would be satisfied.

I always wanted to be a Chemical Engineer while I was growing up. That didn't work out, so I became an Electrical Engineer instead. Then I got bored of it and now I'm a project manager.

I basically spent my childhood drawing and dreaming about cars, and thus wanted to be a car designer.
I went into design, just not automotive. There really was no outlet for that in Calgary, so that never went anywhere. I still wish I had done so sometimes.

I could never really get the wheels to look right anyway.

I always chuckle at this question. Does anyone actually follow through on their childhood dreams?
I always wanted to be a policeman, or a comedian, improv or stand-up. I always wanted to be involved with FIFA in some capacity, whether as a player or a coach.

I'm a software consultant now, but I wish I had gone a different route. I really want to fulfill one of these before I retire, hopefully getting into comedy.

By the way, if anyone says they dreamed of doing Joint Venture or land admin stuff when they were kids, I don't believe it for a second! Kids don't dream of doing hardcore oil/gas work!

I did the car design thing too. Then I realized a) I can't draw and b) there is more to designing cars then just drawing them.

I have an old binder at my friends house full of cars that we drew. We'd spend hours "designing" cars.

 This thread makes me depressed.

			I wanted to drive a C-Train.
No offense to all the fine transit employees out there, but I'm pretty happy I didn't succeed in that endeavour!

I dreamed of being of an astronaut, or working for NASA. Also, being a commercial pilot or a fighter pilot. I think it's likely most kids dream about being something adventurous, magical and highly exciting. And rightfully they should; those are interesting jobs!
Hence, I know what I didn't dream about as a kid - accounting, finance, oil and gas or mortgages. Who the hell dreams of that? LOL. Although I'm sure there were kids out there that might have did that, I guess. Indoctrinated from their parents!

As cliche as it is, I wanted to be a firefighter. I actually moved to Brandon when I was 18 and started training with the intention of eventually going to the fire fighter college there.
Then I had a big reality check about the horrors of the job (particularly, about being a first responder at accidents) and realized that I didn't have the stomach for it. I have a tonne of repsect for those guys though.

A stuntman. Getting to crash cars, light yourself on fire, jump off of buildings and generally destroy stuff sounded fantastic.

I was a complete dinosaur nut as a kid. Still am, actually. I made it into science, but not as a paleontologist. As I grew older I became interested in helicopters, and thought about becoming a pilot, but that also never happened.

Initially I wanted to be a doctor, however this changed to a veterinarian because I was afraid I would make an error on the operating table and end up killing someone. I probably felt I wouldn't feel quite as guilty if it was an animal. When I graduated from high school I found out I had to have 4 months experience on a farm to get into vet college (Guelph was the only college at the time). So not wanting to spend the time on a farm, I chose Geology, as I loved the outdoors. I was never disappointed being a geologist...one the most exciting careers for a Calgarian, if you like rocks, and have the spirit of an old fashion prospector in you.
