He has a .660 OPS but had a 2.0 WAR, probably all defense guy.

Avilies really isn't that good but you're trading a manager you don't seem to be high on anymore. Anything in return is a plus, a warm body is worth it.

I despise everything there is to despise about Adam Lind. He keeps his body in awful shape, he makes too much money, he said this offseason "he hates talking walks" and he will never hit lefites good. I feel like he is one of those players I actually will actively root against as a cynic. It would be the sign of the acolcypse if he hits 40 home runs

He struggled pretty badly the first 6 weeks of the season. He got crazy run support though and had an inflated win total that probably kept him in the rotation. But after the Allstar break he started to pitch more in line with his pre injury form. He's not an untouchable....but he has a lot more value than a guy like Avilles does.
Although dumping Lind to get Avilles would be okay. I think Avilles had to play too much last year. He seems to do better if he's kept to 450 PA's a year. But maybe he becomes another Marco Scutaro type, granted I don't think his OBP will ever be close to Scutaro. Still a middle infielder who can be a 700 OPS guy can be useful. Adam Lind....not so much.

Getting someone that plays pretty good defensively, and can play all of 2B, 3B, and SS and hit decently and doesn't cost an arm an a leg is all good.
It will depend on what we do with Hechavarria and Escobar now, but on the surface it's good.
Hopefully that's just one of the first things that AA will be doing to address the weaknesses in the lineup.

What has Farrell done to warrant such a backlash from Jays fans if true? In his two seasons as manager I find he really hasn't done much to take this team to the next level. If anything he's just maintained the status quo of a team that should be on the rise. Alex needs to bring in a guy with big league experience that will help grow this young core and hopefully allow them to be playing meaningful games in September.
I wish Farrell the best of luck in Boston, except when we play him during the season.

I'm not sure there's any backlash, I don't think many fans care either way. The Jays were pretty bad when he arrived, and they're still pretty bad. If they can parlay Farrell and Lind into a warm body then I'm all for it, especially if AA uses some of Lind's salary to bring an arm for the starting rotation.

Farrell is just exceedingly average. Not someone that you must keep under all circumstances. Definitely not in the same class as Leyland or La russa etc.
The Jays need to find someone who either is a real name manager, or get someone that looks to have that kind of upside. Alomar might fall in the latter category.

If the Jays were a veteran-laden team ready to challenge seriously in the next couple of years I think I'd like a more experienced manager for the team, but the Jays are still quite young. I kind of like the idea of Alomar given a shot for the next 2/3/4 years to see what he can do. Perhaps it's just some sentimental bias on my part, but I like the idea of SAJ on the bench next season.

He's an all defense slightly below average bat kind of guy. A super sub type guy like Rajai Davis, who's great if you're not using him every day
