Question for mods. When reporting posts, do we have to give a reason in the message box, or can that be left blank?

Why wouldn't you write something in the box and explain why you're reporting it?

Yes, please give a reason. We get so many that say something like "this should be pretty obvious"- and often it isn't if I haven't been following the thread.

The other thing is that we also get an email about a reported post; and the email will contain your reason but not the post in question.

Best way to approach it is assume we cannot see what it is you are reporting; as if you are sending a text message and telling us about the post.

I guess I should have worded my question a bit different. I'm wondering if the software allows reports without a message?

But, you are right ken. Something that is obvious to me (or someone else) might not be as obvious to a mod, so it's probably best if all reports have a message explaining the reason. Thanks for the replies.

OK, I just tested it. The software requires something to be typed into the report reason. I was able to just enter 1 character to report a post. And for the reason I mentioned above; I don't think I'd want many posts that short.

The only reason I could see for such a short report is if you see something really, really bad; but you are on your phone and a work meeting is about to start. If it's that bad; odds are somebody else will report it. If it's not really bad; it can wait until you have time to post a reason.
