What settings are you on?
Most goalies, including mine, have 2-2.75 GAA and .895-.935 Save %.

Pro; Normal...with face-off difficulty lowered by 1.
I'm pretty sure if I had to deal with this game's "quirks" on a higher setting I would be perfectly capable of taking another human life several times per gaming session.
EDIT: Also, I'm convinced that the devs are sadists. The plethora of injuries is absurd. And it's compounded by that stupid edit lines glitch that, for reasons I can't fathom, still exists a month after release.
Hate to pile on, but why the heck aren't Irving and Sven considered rookies? I may be nit-picking, but is attention to detail a completely foreign concept to Electronic Arts?

I assume that means nothing else is altered.
I generally play the game with major edits to the sliders. The game is much slower and hitting is (generally) fixed. There's the occasional unusual goal where a snapshot from the blueline goes on or the AI decides it wants to hit me 4-5 times in a row and lock my player into the "getting hit" animation, but for the most part it works.

Yep, face-off difficulty is all I changed. I really should play around with the sliders more, but it's hard to specifically set time aside to test that when I have college on the go and the only thing I want to do when I get a spare moment is play a game of hockey or two. I'm sure if I tinkered a bit I could find a happier medium. I'm always apprehensive because I'm afraid I'll custom tailor the sliders so much that I end up killing any and all challenge. And, as you mentioned, you can't fix everything.
As for the injuries, I only seem to accumulate them when I sim. My AHL team averages an injury once every three games. When I sim-intervene with my NHL club, I hit a little under that average. If I play all the games, I am lucky to see 4 injuries all year. I certainly don't mind having to deal with an injury depleted roster every now and again, but as of right now it is way overdone. I have to compensate for long term injuries all season long, every season. I've actually dumped all my GM XP into my Medical Staff in order to combat this (and it has helped a little with injury recovery, but not so much prevention). It also sucks that I have to spend time after each injury heavily re-editing the coach adjusted lines because of what I assume is an easily fixable glitch. I'm not fully comprehending how a tuner can fix Be a Pro face-off starts and not the edit lines bug.

...I'm unsure as to how you can question the "challenge" of a game and then play on what is effectively an "easy" mode when comparing it to generations past.
It's all about customizing sliders. If you don't want to tinker with them yourself, head over to operationsports.com and go into the forums and look at other people's recommended sliders.

Well, it all begins with the fact that I am, generally speaking, not very good at video games. I have neither the time nor dedication to truly excel at any particular game...but I enjoy playing them when I get a spare moment.
My issue is that the "challenge" of the game is essentially a discrepancy involving game mechanics and AI between the user and the CPU. There are moves and abilities that my CPU opponent can execute that are simply unavailable to me...either through outright exclusion or the limitations of an experimental system. For example, I cannot simply strip the puck off my opponents stick and start up ice when I am near them. However, whenever I am within 3 feet of my CPU opponent this occurs regularly. This wouldn't be a huge deal if this was something that A) I could do myself or B) my AI teammates would do.
And I don't think I have compared the "challenge" of this game, on any mode, to the preceding game or series of games. Certainly not the last generation.
I'm well aware of the many slider sets that fellow gamers have produced. However, as I mentioned earlier, to go through the vast amounts of differing settings would take far longer than the time I am willing to invest in this game. That isn't saying that these wouldn't work, but they also won't fix everything. I can't make my teammates smarter, and I can't gain some of the moves that the CPU has that I don't.
Perhaps if I find myself with time, or I find myself playing this game more often than I do now, user-generated slider sets might be worth looking at.
I know...if I don't look around for viable solutions I have no one but myself to blame. However, it would be nice if the development team spent a little time on these issues and drastically overhauled the AI.

Hey Jobo, or anyone else that would know this, is there a fatigue factor for goalies?
Old NHL games used to put the sleeping bubble beside his head when he'd played too much, is there anything like that here?
Or can I play my starter all 82 and he won't be unaffected?

has anyone been able to beat the offline HUT "elite" tournament yet ?!?!?
I can't get past the first round (well have only once) in 20+ tries. CPU is scoring in the last minutes of the game to tie, then i lose in the shootout every game i have played in the last 7 tries straight.

Just a note: if you mention your goalie has been weak before a gm connected game with Jobo, he'll totally tell you to play your backup as your starter may be fatigued. Classic Jobo.

I posted earlier in the thread, but I was having similar issues with hitting. What I discovered is that the hitting sliders are reveresed from what you would think they are. You would think that when you're increasing the human slider to the right that you're increasing the hitting power. What you're actually doing is making human players easier to hit. Same with the CPU slider.
Move the human slider left (harder to hit) and the CPU slider right (easier to hit) and a large part of your problem should go away. Worked for me. I actually had to back off a bit because I was destroying the CPU in hits (allstar, offline).

I don't believe there is goalie fatigue. I haven't seen it yet. Another issue with the goalies is their passing. They don't seem to be able to do it very well.
I still play the game a lot and have accepted a state of smoldering rage when the CPU scores a crap goal (I have Backstrom - 87, in net and routinely give up 4 or 5 goals on 15-20 shots while scoring the same on 40) or, my latest rages: how the Dmen don't cover for each other - the Dman not covering the puck carrier still tries to stand up his man instead of retreating with the opposition and is then caught chasing, and the net battles. Guys too busy with net battles to do silly things like scoop offensive zone rebounds or go to the corner to get a loose puck; power forward moves are almost dead because you can't get a shot if you're being touched. so many more, but acceptance makes me happier (and taking my revenge by adjusting the hitting sliders).

Obviously very late to the party but I finally picked the game up yesterday. My first impressions, which seem to be in the minority, are generally I think they improved in almost every aspect. Played 2 games on All-star CGY vs EDM and CGY vs VAN. Won both games (2-1 and 5-2), and loved the general presentation of the game, felt very authentic. Great sound effects (crowd cheering, booing, chanting, goal horn etc.), great visuals (camera angles, cut scenes, in game stats) and no longer can you just one-time from the slot for every goal. Computer AI, positioning, movement is much improved (only 1 of my 7 goals were one-timers, had a few wristers, 1 slapshot from the blue line, few redirections - one of them off 3 legs before going in). Yes the hitting could be improved (Gagner leveled Iggy c'mon??) but the skating physics are a huge improvement. Backward skating in the O-zone is also a nice touch. Some of the others who said the opponents always tie it up late if it a close game, Kipper robbed Hall on a breakaway in the final seconds to preserve a win. My sample size is admittedly small, but great job EA!!
Now PLEASE make BAP for us goalies out there actually playable. Still only 15 or fewer shots against, bored out of my mind while my teams on the offensive. Is there not a way to sim to my next "shift" so I'm not just watching 75% of them game?

Have to rage a little bit. Just played Montreal (offline, allstar) and lost 6-3. I can deal with that. But...hard to swallow losing 6-3 while outshooting them 31-14 with Backstrom in net for me. At one point shots were 21-6 for me and I was losing 5-1. Then Scott Gomez handily beat up Chris Neil.

what mode?
Offline HUT playing superstart tournament (ie. elite tournament) i find downright impossible to beat the CPU.

BAGM, I don't win them all (nor should you), but this one was a little over the top, plus the announcers were just stoking the fire - commented how I just didn't have enough puck possession - while the stats showed that I spent 3X as much time attacking as the CPU did. Oh well, I'll go back for more punishment tonight.

Haha, that's my bad. Since they had it in HUT, I figured it was in all game modes this year. His post actually caused me to go check and verify online.
Next time we play I'll start my backup.
