It looks temporary to me, but I can't really tell what they're doing. I'm hoping it's just some utility work or something like that. Whatever it is they really need to fix it quickly.

Here's an article from a few days ago which all-but-confirms what some of us have known for awhile - that the WestLRT will open on December 10th as originally planned.

Also, 7th Avenue downtown is closed to C-Train traffic this long weekend as well as next weekend. This closure is to complete work which will tie the West LRT line into the electrical and signals systems for the rest of the network. Catenary (overhead wire) is being strung between 10th and 11th Streets SW.

Basically after next weekend, as far as the signals, communications, etc. systems are concerned, West LRT is fully integrated into the rest of the LRT network.

Obviously a couple months until they're officially done with the project... but great job by the city on this one. That was a huge arse project to finish on time.

Good to know things will be up soon. It just sucks that with the LRT opening over here that the 101 that goes through my neighborhood (Coach Hill) is going to be discontinued.

Credit to you for upholding your mistake. Was a good laugh. I know there's going to be a number of routes rerouted or discontinued with new ones added. Will that be done on the date of the LRT debut?

There was a delay because the old concrete was cut to be torn out but apparently it was like 2 feet deep and the cutters didn't or couldn't go deep enough.

Yup, I give full marks to the city on this one. I get the impression they wrote a very good contract on this one and have used it very effectively to get maximum performance out of SNC-Lavalin. Project management 101, easy to talk about but really hard to do in reality.

I have seen a real noticable change in the city's execution of capital projects over the last 5 years or so. They have really stepped their game up as far as project management goes. Lots of on time projects.

It was a performance-laced contract. For every day they were late (or off schedule, I can't remember), they lose out on targeted completion date bonuses.

Compromise? I would keep the 101 and ditch the 104. Strathcona is close enough to 17th Ave that taking bus to c-train compared to taking bus downtown won't be a huge difference.

But from Coach Hill going south past Bow Trail to 17th and then take the train back to Bow Trail seems too far. There's also the 179 as well.

These people are way too late. The C-Train is scheduled in 2 months and some don't even know the 101 is being cut? I've known for over a year. If they don't raise their voice earlier, it can't be changed now.

I am disappointed they are getting rid of the 108. I had a short walk to a stop on Richmond Road and a direct bus. Now I have to take a commuter bus, probably the 306 on the 37th street, to the train. How much parking will there be at the Westbrook station?

Have you ever been in Strathcona? They need their 104 bus to get around that area as much as we need the 101. Unless the people who live in that area really enjoy walking as much as i do.

There still will be a bus that goes around Strathcona, but instead of turning right at the Sobey's and then going onto Bow Trail, it'll turn left and go to Westside Rec.

It just won't be called the 104.

But for a bus to go around Coach Hill then go to Westside, that's far as you know.

Is there anywhere to see exactly what routes are being closed down when the train opens? I agree about the 108 and don't totally see why they are closing it, the train won't be that close that the 108 is worth closing imho

The 301, 101 and 104 are being adjusted to go to Westbrook station. Everyone has to transfer there.

I've hated the idea from day 1. I called the City and emailed them multiple times over this issue, and have vented to them repeatedly. They keep telling me the new four-car trains are going to be more than enough to handle capacity.

I'll give them a bit of a break - I'd like to see how the new system works first, but I have serious hesitations it would improve anything there is right now. I can just see a giant cluster#### at Westbrook Station that is going to piss off ALOT of people.

And think about this - all those people waiting for these same buses (including myself) now are going to clog up the train stations out of downtown. It is going to be ugly, shoulder-to-shoulder Tokyo-style crowding to get on these trains back home.

I believe my commute has just gotten alot more complicated. More incentive to cycle or walk, even if it takes longer.
