I've checked out Kijiji and Beyond, and not much there.
Cheapest is to get steel wheels to mount your winters on. If your car comes with 17" you can go down one size to save a little more money (smaller the tire size the cheaper the tire). I went 17" with my MDX when the original size is 18".

Seriously call UrbanX people have this fear that winter tires are exotic expensive when they really are not considering any fender bender will cost more than the snow tires plus can't go cheap on safety especially if you have kids in the car.

I bought mine from tirerack.com. They had some on sale a while ago and I found a set on sale. With shipping and duty it was right around $600 for 18" rims for my Acadia.

I know many people say "just get the steel rims." However I think they are ugly, and with the winter tires being on the vehicle ~50% of the year I would rather have some decent aluminum rims.

First snowfall in Calgary yesterday and I only had 'all season' tires on my truck. I feel lucky to have survived!

Hey quick question.

So i bought a set of 4 rims with blizzak LM22 used from Kijiji for my TSX. i got them cheap but one of the tire needs replacing. So i'm assuming i need to buy 2. But they don't make the LM22s anymore. Can i buy buy 2 Blizzak LM60s and use them with 2 LM22s?

What's the typical cost difference between swapping out for having your winters already mounted on separate rims vs not. Any other considerations?

I get that you can just swap them yourself, but that might not always be possible, so trying to factor that in.

I didn't read the thread. But I will say this. $700 for winter tires is nothing compared to a single collision in a newer vehicle. Get them. They make all the difference in the world.*

* Speaking from too many near-collisions as a result of crappy tires.

I have read nothing of the thread but saw Urban X mentioned so I thought I'd throw my recommendation in as well.

The owner is amazing. During the summer I wanted to get one of my tires balanced, they found a nail as well so they removed it. Went inside to pay him, there computers were done so after sitting their for 10 minutes Bob just said forget, "it's on the house".

Super cool guy and will definitely go back when I have anything tire related.

I just called Urban X... their quote was a full $200 cheaper than everywhere else I called (Kal, Blaskin, TireCraft and OK).

Still a bloody fortune for pick up truck winters though... ugh.

Pickup truck tires are damn expensive, and there is not a lot of selection in the 20 inch rim size either. Cheapest I found online and in store was Costco, 1165 all in for a set of 4 installed and balanced. Bridgestone Blizzaks DM-V1 275 60 20's

Yeah but your other tires will last twice as long so in the long run you're not really out by much.

Hmm... The DM-V1's is what I was quoted on, but for 275/65R18's... and it was $1360 at Urban X.

Everywhere else was $1565 or higher.
I just cancelled my Costco membership last month since I haven't been going there much since moving to Alberta.

I'll have to call them... if it's that cheap, paying the $55 membership fee is nothing.

Make sure the price is all in. Gary usually quotes all in prices also paying a little more and not having to hang around costco all day is worth it to me.

lol... all in at Costco is $1030.

I'll hang around Costco all day to save $300+, especially with Costco a 6 minute drive away. I'm sure I can drop my truck off and by the time I walk to CrossIron, eat at the food court and make fun of fat mall-freaks, it won't be that excruciating.

Question about TPMS - do you need the sensors installed on new wheels?

Or is it up to me if I dont mind living with the annoying notice?

If you don't mind the warning indicator being on all of the time, then you don't need them.

I should note that I do have the TPMS. Personal choice of course. Actually my wife's choice, I didn't care, but I'm whipped.

For me- after spending $1200 on tires and rims, I wasn't going to cheap out the last $160 for TPMS. Besides, it's in winter that I really want to know if I have a problem tire. It's harder to fill the tire when it's really cold, and slow leaks tend to go much faster in winter.

Just a word of caution, I priced mine out over the phone at the Costco in NW Calgary. When I went there to actually order the tires, they gave me some song and dance about not being able to order due to some massive shortage. I had to go and order through Costco online, who apparently has access to different warehouse stock then the actual stores themselves do. Just got confirmation tonight that the tires had shipped. Price was the same...although not sure if you can still qualify for that 70$ off Bridgestone tires rebate that was on last week. I think they have new promo for Michelin tires this week...
