Yeah, I see what you and secol are saying, I guess I just assumed people would want the competition aspect of playing their games. Basically if I didn't want to play against people I would have just played a league vs. the CPU.

One of the funnest parts of the mode is interacting with other human GMs, whether it's through trades, trash talking, etc. and not having to deal with CPU GM's and their moronic decisions.

yeah, don't get me wrong it's been hella fun playing with my team vs other humans, but the wheeling and dealing with actual users is pretty awesome too

There is no sliders or advanced settings I can adjust for the game mode this year.
The reason the game skill level is set to All-Star/Hardcore is because that's the setting that's most ideal to make sure the game isn't too difficult in regards of taking on the CPU (since human should have some sort of incentive to play the game), but also level out the skill level playing field by making the game play under realistic oriented gameplay settings.
Now I could adjust it to normal, but I fear that then the game will become too easy for those very skilled at the game, and those that are having trouble against good players will have even more trouble. Not to mention it would take a user skill (passing) out of the equation as well. Plus some aspects of the game are tuned a bit differently since it's not on hardcore settings.
For the meantime the settings should remain the same. Honestly just more repetitions with hardcore passing will make you naturally improve. Get offline games against the CPU will give you great practice since you'll be forced to make passes while under harassment. Once you can do that you'll be a lot better at aiming your passes.

In that case, I think that All Star/Hardcore is the way to go. Because you're right...in NHL 12, I would suck most of the time against others in normal online play because I just wasn't as skilled.
But in our league, I've noticed that even though I've lost 9 out of the 11 games I've played, the vast majority of them were close games, even if the score didn't say so. Most of my goals against have been my young goaltender's inexperience, but I gotta say, he was much better in last night's game. Although that could have been because I was better in front of him.
I feel like I have been getting better with time, and I try to practice against the CPU when I can.
One thing I have trouble with though...I can't seem to gain any pressure in the offensive zone because I don't get too far before I give the puck up. And passing to the CPU is risky, first of all, and secondly, the AI controlled players on the ice are almost always out of position. Half the time I feel like I'm by myself out there.

This league has become less about who is the good gm and more about who is the better game player, I thought I was good enough to compete vs other players and will keep working on it to improve, till then I will keep taking my ass beatings in stride!

I'm enjoying the managing aspect of GM Connected. I fill my quota for gameplay in other modes, but the part of GM Connected I'm enjoying the most is (obviously) the interaction with other human GM's, as likewid mentioned. I may be alone on this but I'd give up the ability to play games in GM Connected for a fully functioning draft day where managers are examining picks and making trades. I think that would be a blast.
In the meantime, hardcore mode is currently getting the better of me although I'm managing not to throw my controller through the screen (yet). I think the use of TextPlus is working out great as well, so any GM's who aren't on it should sign up and join the conversation. Lots more player-related stuff there than on here.

the GM apparently won't be in till after the advance. we are allowed to play VS the cpu. obviously nobody is trading with the two CPU GMs right?

btw i don't think i'm going to play vs the CPU anymore. with all the emphasis on D and goaltending it was already tough to score and with hardcore passing it makes it even more difficult. so i've been focusing on getting pucks on net and shooting low which hasn't helped at all >.<

Just an FYI, I don't know if Phoenix meant to put the players on waivers that he did, since one of them seems to be his starting goaltender, and another is a player he claimed on waivers, then put him back on waivers, so out of respect for him till he tells us I think it's best if people don't claim his players off waivers.
And, to help maybe curb the computer from throwing people automatically you might want to clean up your rosters before the advance if your making trades or claiming people or signing free agents. If you have to many players on your main roster the cpu needs to make room. I personally have my dressed roster, and one scratch. Anyone I can send down without going through waivers I send him down before the advance.

I was feeling the same way, then I played Washington and had 12 min TOA. I was rolling, cycling like a Sedin.
Maybe if you stop doing your drag passes you'll complete more passes

Holy crap. This is my official statement that I didn't put my starting goalie on waivers. Please don't anybody pick him up. I cannot figure out how to do anything with my team at the moment. I have a guy rated a 45 and can't get rid of him. Figured I was at the cap floor so I signed Nystrom to an inflated deal, but can't bring him up OR send my 45 down. Now it appears the computer has no problem dropping guys like crazy... why it chose my starter I have no clue.
Does anybody know how I can pull myself out of this sh*t-show?

I hope that wasn't Jonathan Bernier. I did put a claim in on him, as I'm sure a few others did.
As for the playing vs. simming debate, I'm all for simming. I don't play my games because I'm not very good... I will lose and my team will look like crap because I'm not good at playing the games. But if I sim or let the honestly pretty good computer play, I get a better indication of my actual team. Some of it is just unrealistic right now. Look at the top scorers... all guys from Ottawa with super inflated point values cause the Ottawa guy is good at the game and running up the score against people who aren't. Not really a realistic GM experience. There's a billion other modes to actually play the game in, I thought this one was more for the simulation experience.

Yep that's him. I'd appreciate it if whoever gets him puts him back up for me to reclaim. I can't figure out why this happened. Is it because I set it so people could play my cpu? I figured that was just for people to play my cpu if I was unable to login.
