He's a piece of scum, but being beaten and hospitalized isn't a good situation either. What the heck were they doing putting this kid in with what I can only assume to be violent, hardened criminals? Or did he do something so incredibly stupid so as to warrant a ####kicking?

Either Cook ####ed up, or the Remand Centre really ####ed up.

He'll probably be kept out of the regular population after this.

That would suck to get sent to the Remand Centre. From the first minute you arrive there you'd have no idea what to do, who to talk to or how to act. You're basically a walking target, I would assume. Gangsters, robbers, perps, arsonists, etc.... and then there's you, accused of stealing money. Good luck with your new playmates!

That's just what he has charged with and can be proven. The man has a long history of BS.

A disregard for others can manifest itself it many different ways.

And if his injuries had been worse? Would that have still been justified?

This guy is scum, but I can' condone violence of any kind. No one wants to be beaten in general, let alone beaten by a gang of criminals in a small space. To condone it would be hypocritical - supporting something illegal to justify the actions of someone else doing something illegal.

I don't "support" it but like I said, if one of those guys had a history with cancer (family, friends, himself) I have no problem with him laying in on the tool.

Yeah, but to what extent should an attacker 'lay in' on the guy? A slap in the face? Maybe a punch.. what about a couple of broken legs? Hell, let's just put the guy in a coma! He faked cancer...what a jerk!

His injuries include a lacerated spleen, a broken nose and a chipped tooth. He wasn't just roughed up a little bit. Yeah he's a d-bag for faking cancer - but I wonder what the d-bag's who beat him up for are in jail for? Do they deserve it more than him given their crimes? Who is it that decides who deserves to get beaten up and to what extent? There's nothing okay about this situation - the guy getting the #### kicked outta him in jail by other criminals is not justice. Yes, he needs to spend some time in jail. No - he should abolsutely NOT be beaten up.

He faked cancer for some money, some people make it seem like he orchestrated the holocaust.

He deserves punishment, but let's not get carried away. He definitely doesn't deserve any jail house punishment. The media sure loves running with these stories that tug at people's hearts. They know most people have lost someone to cancer and this would outrage them.

Maybe some of those prisoners have lost people to cancer.

To be honest, I couldn't care less if he got his face kicked in.

I'm solidly in the who cares, he deserved it category. Maybe this will be a deterrent to other scammers who want to use fake illnesses to rip people off.

I doubt the beating was laid on him because he scammed $7500. A beating like that probably was either him being a ###### or just being in the wrong cell with the wrong inmates. Not sure it would act as a deterrent at all, other than to prevent committing any crimes in general.

Oh I'm pretty sure they knew who he was. Prisoners aren't completely stupid.

If got raped, paralyzed or died than that would be an unjust punishment.

the lacerated spleen is a little unfortunate - everything else is ok though.
