Thumbs up Game show contestant spends winnings in 4 months to keep from estranged wife

Quote:
After Scott Brown held his nerve to win £50,000 on Deal Or No Deal, he was determined that his estranged wife should not get a penny.

The 33-year-old sign manufacturer and fitter said he used £15,000 to clear all the debts he and his wife Rachel, 29, had from credit card bills, loans and bank overdrafts.

After setting aside almost £2,000 to cover legal fees for his divorce, he bought clothing, toys and household items for their two young children.

Mr Brown also used some cash to ‘live off’, having being signed off from work because of ‘depression’.

But he admits he spent most of the rest on ‘having a good time’, including an iPad, a holiday in Mexico and the outlay of £4,000 on a second-hand X-type Jaguar estate car.

The final part of his winnings went days before his own August 21 deadline to pay for an electrician’s course, so he could start a new career.

As it turned out, Mr Brown was right to suspect that his wife, who he says asked him for a divorce on Christmas Day last year when he allegedly found she had been having an affair with a truck driver she met over the internet, would want to cash in on his lucky break.

If a woman cheats on a perfectly good man, files for divorce and then is awarded custody of the children, that man should be allowed to whip her if he suspects her of using child support money on her self. Nice to see this greedy little wench didn't get her greasy paws on one penny of his winnings.

The case went before a district judge at Doncaster County Court last Thursday, when Mr Brown was ordered to detail in writing how the money was spent; an injunction imposed days earlier ordering him not to spend his winnings – if any remained – was kept in place; and the case was adjourned.
I would think he would still be compelled to come up with her portion of his demonstratable income. It sounds a little odd he would escape the obligation just by spending it.

If he had money at the time of the divorce I can see her getting half. However, if he simply spent it all while they were still legally married then he's just a spouse with a "spending problem." Half of zero is still zero.

If they decided last December to get a divorce and he won the money this April, would she have been entitled to half of the money anyway? If so, then good for him for spending it.

I should clarify here; I do not support women who cheat on their husbands. I also don’t support people who sit behind their keyboards living perpetual victimhood and resentment at some woman (or man) who hurt them in past through infidelity, celebrating every time someone sticks it to some cheater out there without knowing anything beyond a news headline.

There was a post on reddit this morning about a girl who found out her boyfriend was cheating on her. She set his motorcycle on fire, do you support that behaviour? After all the cheater got what they deserved right?

Did the motorcycle cheat? Or was it just an innocent victim?
