Most of those problems have surfaced on iPads as well, and no one would argue that an iPad isn't "excellent hardware."

I suppose that I left my point a bit too vague. What I am driving it is that the Nexus 7 (IMO) breaks the perception that only Apple can deliver a high quality and easy to use product that just works. That's always been (amongst) Apple's big secret to success.
We've been closing in on this moment for a while, but I think the Nexus 7 is the device we'll look back at and say "ya, that's where the market really shifted."

I know, I was just bugging. The Nexus 7 is intriguing to this iPad owner, as are the upcoming Windows RT tablets (admittedly more so that the Android stuff)

I don't know how many Kindle Fires have been sold but it should be well over 10 million by now. Amazon's the one that legitimized the $200 tablet market.
Clearly the Nexus 7 is a better device but the industry shifted to good tablets at $200 awhile ago.

This thread was cool when it was about the Nexus 7 not Apple vs. Google.
I just ordered one from BB. Going to load XBMC on it and use it as my bedroom media player.

Just got mine. Haven't used a tablet before to any depth and I really really like this. Very smooth, love the futuristic android theme and skin, beautiful screen and love the small form factor. Makes reading articles on the internet great. Oh and XBMC on this thing is fantastic.
Only one problem. The damn thing wont charge. Tried every which way to charge it and it just sits there. I read on some other sites that this is a known problem. What a load of crap. How could you release such a high profile device with such a critical flaw? Brutal. Anyway, off to take it back to Best Buy.
edit: Ok after further investigating it seems that you need to use the supplied cable. Any other micro usb cable wont do. Weird. So no problems I guess...

It seems to be the depth of the micro USB connector that's used on the Nexus 7 which seems a bit deeper than the length of some of the cables. Comparing my cables for my nook color, phone a few others devices, this seems to be the case.

Just throwing this out there.....I use the micro usb from my cellphone without any issues. Obviously there's a certain 'type' of cable that works, but I dunno what it is.

The USB standard allows for cables where if there is a data connection is present, charging can be disabled.
I have not seen it in a while, since pre-smart phone days, but if this is a case of that, then you can break off those pins in the male microUSB connector, and it will charge. I have not done any research on that relating to the Nexus though, so if you wanted to try this, I would do some research to see if that is the case before you wrecked a cable.

I don't think that's the case here as I have a data connection and charging working fine simultaneously right now with a number of different cables including an aftermarket retractable one on my Nexus 7. Don't know what it could be otherwise though, maybe a bad power line contact on the cable he used?

Not a great idea to modify USB cables to facilitate charging - if the data lines are snipped, devices may be fooled into thinking the USB port they are connected to is a dedicated charging port (in which the data lines are shorted and have a voltage differential of 0, which could also happen if they were left floating or disconnected), and proceed to draw as much current as they want. If the host system isn't expecting this, or can't handle it, and doesn't shut the port down correctly, you could damage the interface.

Never thought of that, but it makes sense.
At any rate, research would be required before you did something like this, regardless of device.

What is everyone using for a case? I don't know how much traveling i'm going to be doing with this thing, so i'm still up in the air about it. Especially since i don't have hot spot ability with my fido plan (which will soon be changing to wind hopefully).
These things are beautiful, but I don't know if I can justify dropping half the price of a Nexus for one:

No, the worst feeling is when they don't last because they're poorly designed. My iPad Dodocase is broken because the corners snapped. They've just released a new version, which should fix this problem, but that doesn't help me.
The Nexus 7 Dodocase is cheaply made too. They just provide adhesive stripes to stick it to the back of the case.
