Exactly. Jack Layton's legacy is a conservative majority! Good work!

When I think of Ezra, I think of the utter failure of our right wingers to turn Canada into a deeply partisan and crazy.
Nice try Ezra, your dreams of becoming Canada's Rush Limbaugh are not quite there yet.

The sad thing about Ezra is he's not an idiot. He's just an #######.

Yeah, I've stopped on SunTV a few times while flipping channels, and it's hilrious. It's like they just watch FOX news and try to do everything the same.
One time there were two guys arguing (I don't really know their personalities that well) and the guest dude said something about them being Conservative and the host dude immeditaly threw out the FOX news go to line "That's wrong, we provide the other side of the story". I just rolled my eyes.

I'd say the Liberals drove the bus on that one, so it is more accurate to say that Ignatieff's legacy is a conservative majority, NDP opposition and the destruction of his own party.
Which, incidentally, has created the ironic situation where EVERYBODY is unhappy with the current political landscape. Hardcore leftists hate the Conservatives. Righties hate the idea of the NDP becoming the "government in waiting" and the 13 or so people still in the Liberal camp hate the fact that they have really gone from being the "national governing party" to standing on the verge of becoming a historical footnote.

I didn't listen or read whatever he said but he's probably right... and he's probably an a-hole for saying it. Political spectrum truce?

I don't see the need to celebrate or demonize Jack Layton just because it's a year after his death. Let him rest in peace.
Both the concerts in support of him and the articles taking shots at him are unnecessary. Everyone should try to move on.

Ezra likes to be controversial, it's his shtick. To me, he's the perfect troll. Saw him defend the Oil Sands to death in front of a bunch of hippies here in Victoria, it was awesome.

He also brought us to a real 3 party system in Canada. While I disagree with a lot of the NDP's platforms; I do like having that other perspective to keep the gov't in check.

And there's also a possibility that the Liberals could merge INTO the NDP. Who would have thought that? The Liberals? A party that never finished 3rd? Three consecutive majorities under Chretien? And there would be a possibility that that party could die and merge into the NDP who they mocked for decades?
Layton accomplished that. Even if they don't merge, just the thought of it is mindboggling.

I don't know what the future holds for the Liberal Party but I still am of the opinion that in the long term there is a moderate political centre that isn't represented by either the NDP or the CPC. That won't be the case forever.

Those righties must not be taking their cues from Stephen Harper, who has publically stated that his goal is the destruction of the Liberal Party (as opposed to, say, good government).

A two party system is the end result of logical voting and first-past-the-post. For the centre to be well respresented, first-past-the-post needs to be scrapped.

Yeah, he's not going to win too many popularity contests outside of the oil patch but the sad part is he has a lot of valid points about things, he's just a dickhead about it so a lot of times it creates a bunch of negativity just because its him, regardless of what he says. He could say "puppies are cute" and animal rights groups would hate it because its him. Wouldn't blame them really, he brings it on himself.

Jack Layton's ascent to sainthood is directly related to Michael Ignatieff's descent, dragging the Liberal Party with him.
If he hadn't died, Layton probably would have been there when the Liberal's finally found a credible leader and rose back to their normal position alongside the Conservatives, reducing the NDP once again to the fringe party of the protesting left.
And yes, that will happen.
For timing, Layton was one lucky sumbitch . . . . . even the unfortunate dying part seeming to be timed right to cement an unchallengable legacy.
Didn't watch Levant's rant and haven't watched SUN TV but I assume he might have said something along those lines. If he did, he's right.
