How much are those games worth on their own? At least $70, right?
So you bought a Wii console for about $60. Pretty good deal if you ask me. Sure, something better may be out soon. But then it will be in short supply for a while; so let's say you can get it in 6 months.
So call it a $10/month rental, and be happy. And I'm sure the Wii games will play on the new console; just like Game Cube games play on the Wii.

Pretty much. You'll also have to spend a lot more to pick up one of those fancy new consoles. There are plenty of games you can pick up on the cheap for the Wii. Donkey Kong Country Returns was the sole reason I bought a Wii last summer.

What you should be looking at is what games could interest you from the Wii:U. If you look at their launch list and find zero games that you'd want to play then it really doesn't make sense to pay the high price new consoles demand.

Thans guys. The combo is cheap enough that if I just finish the few games (Super Mario, Mario Galaxy 2 or even Donkey Kong) on it, it's worth getting.

As I grow older and my kids destroy my gaming time, I realize the brilliance in living a generation behind and buying a cheap console that is already overflowing with equally cheap AAA titles.

If you have a Wii, you don't need to wait. Just spend the $8 and get him Mario World this instant! At least, kids don't really notice any difference between playing Mario 3 and Mario World.

The Wii is great for party gaming/multiplayer, as it is so easy for non-gamers to pick up and play. I recommend MarioKart and any of the Rayman games.
The Lego games (Star wars, indiana jones, etc) are also fun as coop games and some not-too-serious gaming

You can probably sell the used Wii with the games for a desent amount too. That's a pretty cheap price. So worst case scenario, you finish a few games and then unload it on craigslist and get half your money back.
