Default WEEK 8: Toronto at STAMPEDERS

For some reason everytime the Stampeders play the Argos something strange happens. Not sure what the heck is going on but i hope this game will be different.

OFFENSE:

RB Jon Cornish finally had a breakout game last week against the Hamilton TigerCats. Cornish ran for 170 yards that earns him the Player of Week and Canadian Player of the Week on Week #7. Offensive Line played exceptionally well even without a few starters. I thought Spencer Wilson did well for his first ever start in the CFL. R Romby Bryant did not have any receptions but he scored a TD run in the game. R Nik Lewis who just signed a contract extension was as physical as ever flattening DL Greg Peach.
With so many OLine keeps going down, Stamps decided to sign a veteran OLine who can play centre as well in Obby Khan.

DEFENSE:

Defense forced 2 turnovers against the Ticats. DB Quincy Butler had 3 tackles and he intercepted 1 of Henry Burris' throw. Stampeders is 3rd in the CFL in INT with 6. No QB sack last game but they are still in 4th place in the league. I thought our defense did a good job shutting down Chris Williams.

SPECIAL TEAM:

Larry Taylor 172 yards in kick and punt return earned him the Special Team player of the week. P Rob Maver did well in directional punting.

OPPOSITION:

RB Cory Boyd is no longer an Argo. The leading rusher in the CFL was released this week for some reason. Some people were saying Boyd were released because he leaves Ricky Ray vulnerable because he can't block. We will see in the next few games if the Argos made a mistakes or made a good move.

Game starts at 5pm Saturday, August 18th from McMahon Stadium. It will be televised by TSN (subject to blackout). Fans in the US can see the game live via webcast ESPN3.

Go stamps go! Lay a beating on Ray and be prepared to hear about Chad Owens all night. I can hear Rod Black gushing already.

Great idea Argos. Now instead of Ray throwing INT's on 2nd and 3 on the 55 yard line he can throw INT's on 2 and 13 on the Argo's 20. At least now though he will be able to see the opposition run the INT back as the scrub RB they have will be able to block the DL.

Looking forward to plenty of dropped passes tonight. Lewis and Forzani should have that department covered.

In all seriousness, there have been far more drops this year than i can remember in previous seasons; across the league.

I think when a guy like Fantusz is treated as a top receiver in the league by many media sources guys start to see what he does best and follow suit. Now that guys have the drops like Fantusz my guess is next we will see pushing off the DB and not getting called will be the next big trend.

Argos always play the Stamps tough. According to TSN, the Argos have won the last 4 games by a grand total of 10 points. Should be close game.

Top Canadian? Maybe, but it was ridiculous the fame he was getting. He wasn't even the best receiver on the Riders.

I think pushing off the DB has been around for more than a few seasons already. Simon has been doing it for years and the rest of the league has been following. I suppose good on the receiver for not getting caught? Shame on the refs for not calling it.

Chad Owens might be the best offensive player in the league right now

Not a fan of fighting to get an extra inch like Taylor did there.

No problem trying to get out of one tackle but when there are 4-5 guys there no chance you are breaking free and all that can happen is bad things. Lucky to get the ball back.

Look like another embarassing attendance total, tonight. Likely around 10 000 short of a sellout, and it looks to be getting worse each game.

Ray can only do one thing now, dump to receivers and backs and hope they can run for the first down and yet Calgary somehow doesn't cover Drurie or Johnson out of the backfield.

There sure does seem to be a lack of interest in the Stamps, almost everyone I talk to simply doesn't follow the team, I get strange looks from some people when I try and talk about the Stampeders. Plus it doesn't help that McMahon Stadium is an dinosaur, we need a new arena in the worst way.

Stadium, boring team both in style of play and players and the crapiness of the CFL in general are all likely reasons for a drop in attendance.

If the team were competing for Cups I imagine many fans will come back but for a team with basically Lewis, Cornish and a bunch of faceless guys (some of whom may be good) is a tough sell to the casual fan.
